Burford Golf Club is a private members club, located in Burford, Oxfordshire the ‘Gateway to the Cotswolds’. Founded in 1936, our beautiful golf club has 18 holes, a main Clubhouse and Halfway House.

 

We are currently seeking a Franchise Caterer to take over the running of our catering operation. The successful candidate or candidates will be expected to provide an excellent standard of catering for the members and numerous guests who visit the golf club each year.

 

Burford Golf Club was founded in 1935.  We are a vibrant golf club with approximately 900 members which has a reputation for being friendly and welcoming.

 

Our membership expects a choice of good food to be available on a daily basis and in addition the Club hosts numerous social functions, inter-club matches and society bookings throughout the year.

 

Requirements

The applicant(s) must be experienced in all aspects of kitchen operations, including maintaining the kitchen to comply with current health and safety requirements.

Requirements

 

The successful partner will operate the bar & catering franchise at “TBGC”.  We have excellent facilities at the club including a bar, a large lounge, snug and board room.  Our kitchen is fitted with the equipment to allow catering for large events.    
 

* Reporting directly to the General Manager and working closely with the Bar & Catering Committee the ideal partner will be energetic and full of ideas how we can jointly grow our businesses.

* You will have excellent customer care skills, a genuine interest in providing service to members and non-members alike.

* Demonstrable experience working in hotels/venues/clubs.

* Strong communication, interpersonal and organisational skills with an attention to detail.

* We need food for all occasions.  The core customer is the membership.  Our partner will cater for a variety of member requirements, including pre and post round food, formal and informal events, BBQs and more.

* Experience of organising and managing functions, the ability to remain calm under pressure, lead, and work as part of a team and on one's own initiative.

* To be flexible and available Monday to Sunday and be present on duty to facilitate all major Club social and golfing events. We want to ensure you have your private time so effective managing of staff rotas is vital.

* IT literacy including Microsoft Office and EPOS systems.

* Essential people management skills, build trust and be able to motivate and empower others.

* Budget, pricing, and cost management skills.

* While not essential, a love of golf and understanding of members clubs would be very welcome.

 

The Opportunity

 

While this is a franchise opportunity, the successful partner will be an integral part of our club, becoming well known among the members and supported by them.  We have a great mix of all ages and people. 

 

There is nothing more enjoyable than walking out on to our large terrace that overlooks both the first tee and 18th green as players start and finish their round.   The terrace is a summer sun trap and is always buzzing on important golf days.  Food and drink are critical to that special atmosphere which is why your partnership would be highly valued. 

 

Picture the scene.  It’s a warm midsummer’s evening and we’ve converted the terrace into a stage and the 18th hole into an area for members and their guests to take in the music we’ve put on for them.  

 

The smell of barbecue is in the air, and you’ve secured your income on the food as part of the ticket price we have agreed for guests 

 

Your team is serving drinks as fast as they can, and the till is ringing constantly.  You are front of house speaking to guests and making sure they are enjoying the food and drinks you have prepared.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Hospitality

* Set service standards in the clubhouse, delivering a friendly, courteous, and proactive bar service to all Club members and visitors.

* Monitor and uphold bar service standards to ensure they are being met.

* Manage and welcome Golf Societies and other visitors, making sure that they are aware of arrangements made for them and of the Club’s dress rules.

* Proactively liaise with event organisers to determine finer details for events (final numbers, dietary requirements etc.),

* Work closely with the catering team to help deliver a fully integrated service  

* Manage the clubhouse beverage staff, including staffing levels, recruitment, training, performance, and discipline

* Work closely with the Head Chef in relation to all Club, Golf Society or functions, to ensure delivery of exceptional service and food.

* Organise staff rotas to ensure suitable staff cover is present at all times.

 

 

 

Cellar and Bar

 

* Manage the cellar and maintain bar stocks, purchasing stocks at competitive prices, consistent with good value and timely delivery.

* Ensuring that stocks are available for inspection by the Club’s stock taker on a regular basis.

* Ensure regular line cleaning is undertaken to uphold the quality of the drinks provided.

 

 

Health and Safety

* Create and maintain an active action plan to ensure compliance with Health and Safety requirements.

* Ensure that Health and Safety at Work policies and procedures are followed in the Clubhouse.

 

Suppliers

* Manage suppliers to optimise profitability and keep correct stock levels.

* Recommend changes to service levels and/or suppliers where product/performance is unsatisfactory and/or a better value supplier can be identified.

 

House Maintenance

* Maintain strict security of the clubhouse, including daily opening and closing times laid down by the Club Committee.

* Support the General Manager, catering and office staff, and Committees in organising meetings and events in the clubhouse where bar services are required.

* Ensure that all event costs are correctly charged.

 

 

 

The role of Bar Manager presents a real opportunity for the right person to manage, promote and develop clubhouse services across the membership, reporting to the General Manager, within a progressive and friendly environment.

  

The Club is open 7 days a week and it is expected that you will work 40 hours per week, being flexible with regard to days and times. Evenings and weekends will form part of the standard working week.

* Reporting directly to the General Manager, liaising with Department Heads and working closely with the various Committee members, the ideal candidate will have excellent customer care skills, a genuine interest in food & beverage and the following: -

* Three years previous experience as a Food & Beverage Manager, ideally with catering experience. A candidate with assistant manager experience may be considered.

Founded in 1923 and celebrating our Centenary next year, King's Lynn Golf Club moved to its present, idyllic location in 1975, with the course being the first to be designed by the acclaimed Peter Alliss and Dave Thomas partnership and has now matured into a magnificent challenge, considered by golfers and golf writers alike, to be one of the finest and most scenic inland courses in East Anglia.
 

The tree lined, 18-hole, par 72 course is challenging, because the fairways look narrow. The key to a good round is being straight off the tee. It is never the same from one day to the next, as the whirling wind conditions make each hole set up differently from round to round. * Ensure that clubhouse heating and ventilation systems are working properly.

* Maintain strict security of the clubhouse, including daily opening and closing times laid down by the Club Committee.

* Conduct regular inspections of clubhouse fixtures, fittings and equipment, furnishings and fabrics and report any matters arising to the General Manager.

* Conduct regular inspections of the clubhouse surrounds, car parks and all outdoor lighting and report any matters arising to the General Manager.

 

Meetings and Events

* Support the General Manager, catering and office staff, and Committees in organising meetings and events in the clubhouse where bar and catering services are required.

* Ensure that all event costs are correctly charged.

* To hold regular departmental meetings and ensure relevant product knowledge communicated to all staff.

 

 

The role of Bar and Catering Manager presents a real opportunity for the right person to manage, promote and develop clubhouse services across the membership, reporting to the General Manager, within a progressive and friendly environment.

 

The Bar and Catering Manager will be an ambassador for the Club’s food and drink services, a representative for the Club to members and visitors and a role model for how service will be co-ordinated by team members.

Hospitality:

* Ensure regular line cleaning is undertaken to uphold the quality of the drinks provided.

 

Health and Safety

 

* Create and maintain an active action plan to ensure compliance with H&S requirements.

* Ensure the Club’s Health and Safety at Work policies and procedures are followed in the Clubhouse.

* Perform weekly and monthly health and safety inspections on the clubhouse and bar to check compliance and identify/remedy issues needing attention.

 

Suppliers

 

* Manage suppliers to optimise profitability, maintain margins and keep correct stock levels and purchase in line with policy and agreed budget.

* Monitor, analyse and report on weekly & monthly P&L accounts against the budgeted income and expenditure. 

* Recommend changes to service levels and/or suppliers where product/performance is unsatisfactory and/or a better value supplier can be identified.

 

House Maintenance

 

* Ensure the cleaning contractors maintain a high standard of cleanliness throughout the club premises.

* Maintain the clubhouse and immediate surroundings (including showers and locker room areas) in a clean and tidy condition throughout the day.

* Ensure a sufficient supply of laundered towels in both the members and visitors areas

* Ensure that the rear of the clubhouse, including external beer standing area, dustbins and recycle bins are kept in a clean and tidy condition throughout the day.

* Ensure satisfactory arrangements for the club’s laundry requirements.

* Ensure that the clubhouse’s heating and ventilation systems are working properly.

* Maintain strict security of the clubhouse, including its daily opening and closing times laid down by the Committee.

* Carry out regular inspections of the clubhouse fixtures, fittings and equipment, furnishings and fabrics and report any matters arising to the General Manager.

* Carry out regular inspections of the clubhouse surrounds car parks and all outdoor lighting and report any matters arising to the General Manager.

* Schedule and oversee urgent repairs, identifying suppliers, obtaining cost estimates and seeking approval for the works via the General Manager as required.

 

Meetings and Events

 

* Support the General Manager, catering and office staff, and Committees in organising meetings and events in the clubhouse where bar and catering services are required.

* Ensure that all event costs are correctly charged as per the internal planner and liaise with the Finance Officer should there be any discrepancies or queries.

* The role will include profit and loss accountability and drive revenue enhancement for all aspects of the Clubhouse.

* Work with the Office team to ensure the smooth running of functions and manage the processes and procedures the club has in place for such activities.

* Work closely with the Head Chef to promote catering options and actively market all clubhouse functions.

The role will require the necessary training of all staff in such matters of, but not exclusive to, first aid, fire safety, health and safety and ensure that reviews and records are updated and properly kept in accordance with the clubs processes and procedures.

* Ensure the clubhouse is opened and locked as required.

* Develop the Club’s offering for visiting Societies and Corporates.

 

You will be an ambassador for the club’s food and drink services and a representative for the Club, to members and guests and a role model for how service will be co-ordinated by team members.

 

This is a full-time position, in an exciting and dynamic club involving some evening and weekend work; it requires a person who will adopt a hands-on approach and is ambitious towards building a high-level of service to its club members.

 

 

Core Focus of the Role

The daily operational management and successful delivery of activities in the Clubhouse (Bar, Catering, and Maintenance). You will report to the Director of House and be responsible to the members for the overall running of the Club-House.

 

Experience:

We are looking for a person who has experience with the services of a Bar and Catering team.

You will have necessary IT skills to support the creation and development of information, Menu’s and Function sheets.

You will have people management skills and a good understanding of self-motivation and initiative, outgoing, presentable and an excellent communicator.

The Club provides a catering service to our members and visitors, 7 days per week.  Current services range from bar menus and afternoon teas to carveries and function menus, all held in a wonderful location.  The Club’s ambition is to invest in and extend our offering to appeal to more customers both members and a wider audience.

 

The successful applicant will be expected to work 40 hours per week, on a rota basis, which will include shared weekend working.  This would be mainly daytime hours, although it may include the need to work occasional evenings to cover a function or club event.

 

You will lead a small catering team to create relevant, fresh, locally sourced, high quality food.  This will embrace our culture of working with local, small-scale suppliers.  It also provides a platform to build the reputation of Thetford Golf Club as a destination for fantastic food.
