Suffolk Winter Golf Alliance |
|
|
The Suffolk Winter Alliance has been a golfing institution for over 40 years.
It was formed to promote winter golf amongst Suffolk golf club members, both
amateur and professional.
Membership is open to members of Suffolk Golf Clubs. To become a member players
must be aged over 18 years and play off a handicap of 19 or less.
The meetings are played over 18 holes in a four ball better ball competition,
using the Stableford points system. In tandem with the Stableford competition,
professionals compete with each other in a stroke play competition at each
of the meetings.
There is also an annual junior meeting held at the end of the season which
gives the golfers of tomorrow a chance to experience the enjoyment of playing
in the Winter Alliance.

or professional.

On an initially cool day that gradually warmed up, 98 players including 7
Professionals of the Suffolk Golf Alliance (Winter) enjoyed a course that
was playing it's full length.
The Professional prize was won by Alex Lucas with a round of 72.
The Four Ball Better Ball Competition was won by the Crettingham pairing
of Geoff Smith and Dave Gibb with a score of 46 points.

During the meeting Robert Tokley of Stoke-by-Nayland had a hole-in-one on
the 177 yard 12th hole.

Happy New Year to all Winter Alliance Competitors.
You have probably noticed the lack of results recently - all due to the weather.
Stoke-by-Nayland, on Sunday 22nd December, was called off on the day, due
to the greens being flooded.
Rookery Park on Wednesday 8th January, was called off again due to flooding,
followed by the frosty/snow conditions: this fixture was then re-arranged
at Seckford only to be called off due to the snow/frost as well.
All being well (!) the next meeting is at Bungay and Waveney Golf
Club.

On a very wet day 152 Players, including 10 Professionals, took part in the
Winter Alliance at Rushmere. Due to the large field, both the 1st and 10th
Tees were used, mainly to ensure that all games were completed before it
got too dark, but, because of the poor weather conditions, quite a few of
those playing decided to finish when they reached the safety of the Clubhouse
after nine holes.

Winter Alliance Meeting

106 Players, including 10 Professionals took part, initially the conditions
were quite foggy, but this slowly cleared during the day.
Simon Dainty won the Professional Prize with a 68.
The Four Ball Better Ball Competition was being contested by five pairs all
on 43 Points, but then the last pairing of Alex Lucas and Nick Denny from
the home club came in with 44 Points to take the 1st Prize.

Bad attack
of "the wind" hits Alliance meeting!
Sunday 27th October 2002 |

|
The Alliance at Newton Green on Sunday 27th October was abandoned due to
the very high winds. It became impossible to replace the ball on the greens,
the wind kept blowing the ball away from the marker.
The meeting will be re-arranged for a later date.
The next meeting will be at Rookery Park on Wednesday 6th November.

| The results from the Suffolk Alliance Pro-Am/Am-Am held on
Sunday 13th October 2002 at Stowmarket Golf Club.
The forecast was for rain by lunch-time, but for a change it held off until
late afternoon and therefore affected only a few of the players.
156 Players, including 15 Professionals took part.
Robin Mann was once again on sparkling form returning a 6 under 63 to win
the Professional prize.
