A recorded message will advise you of any course or tee closures for the day and, if the course is closed due to bad weather, when we will be carrying out an inspection. New Captain Drives In at Bungay for 2017

BRIEN "DRIVES IN" IN STYLE 

 

New Year’s Day saw Bungay & Waveney Mens’ Captain , Brien Traves take his ‘Drive-in’. In the cold and wet, he bravely struck the ball 227yards. As a result he raised well over £100 for his Charity ‘ Combat Stress’.

The Texas Scramble played before the Drive-in was supported by eighty members.

Lady Captain Drives In

Jo Drives In as Lady Captain

 

Bungay & Waveney Valley ladies watched their new Captain for 2016/17, Joanne Moore, take her drive-in, after the immediate past Captain, Ruth Reynard, had putted out.

Despite the cheers, whistles and bugle call ringing out, Jo managed a drive of 135.85 yards. A competition to guess the length of her drive was won by Mel Dodd.

Prior to the drive-in, the ladies played a 10 hole Texas Scramble.

2016 Junior Championship

Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club Juniors competed in the Junior Championship for the Judith Hood Trophy for the lowest gross and the Handicap Shield for the best nett score.

The younger members played 10 holes and competed for the Jock Haggard Trophy.

2016 Mixed Open

 

BUNGAY MIXED OPEN GREAT SUCCESS

Bungay Golf Club welcomed seventeen pairs, representing fourteen clubs from Norfolk and Suffolk to their Mixed Open Event.  The visitors were competing for the Watts Salver and the winners were Julia Calver and Andy Crisp from Rookery Park. The best Bungay players were Sam Cooper and Brian Wilson.

Ladies 2016 Club Championship

The Ladies Club Championship played over 36 holes was well supported with strong competition for the Scratch Salver which was won by Lils James with a lowest gross of 154 and to equal the Club record.  The Handicap Cup was won by Christine Ambrose with a nett score of 144.    

Both the trophy winners are enjoying their first year as Bungay members. In the 18 hole competition for the Mary Rowan Rosebowl, Chris Jamieson  put in a fine performance with a nett 69.

Men - Invitation Day 2016

 

The Men’s Invitation was supported by 27 members and the guests from 15 different clubs. The rain held off,

the course proved testing with the ‘rough’ and for those who landed in a bunker on the 4th hole,they had to make

a donation for the Captain’s Charity- ‘Nelson’s Journey’. However, the scores for the day were very close at the

finish. The eventual winners of the 4BBB Stableford (pictured above) were Barry Ford and his son David (Eaton GC) with 43pts.  The day concluded with a meal and presentation.

Ladies -Stearn success

Bungay Ladies played their first round of the Stearn County Foursomes Competition at home to Cretingham. After the morning round Bungay were 1 up, but by the end of 36 holes the match   was all square, which meant that Liz Jeary and Ruth Reynard had to play an extra hole to decide the result. With fellow team members anxiously watching, Bungay secured the winning putt to take them into Round 2 to play Bury St. Edmunds at home.

Lady Captain - Charity Day

RUTH'S CHARITY DAY RAISES £3000 

 

Lady Captain, Ruth Reynard hosted her Charity Day to raise funds for ‘Street Games’, which brings sport to disadvantaged children around the UK. The day was supported by some eighty players and the fine weather made it even more enjoyable.

The money raised  through a ‘Silent Auction and a Raffle’ totalled £3,000 .

Senior Ladies Success....

Bungay Ladies played their first round match of the Suffolk Seniors’ Jubilee Shield away to 

Southwold Ladies and had a convincing win.

Ladies Mail on Sunday at Thetford

Great Win in the "Mail on Sunday" for our Ladies

 

Bungay & Waveney Valley Ladies travelled to Thetford to play their team in the second round of

the Mail on Sunday Competition.

The weather was perfect and the course in good condition, resulting in a win for Bungay , 3 – 2.

Ladies Mail on Sunday (Matchplay)

 

Bungay & Waveney Valley Ladies played their first round of the Mail on Sunday  against Diss, in very blustery conditions at Bungay.

The team of five played well in their singles and after 18 holes the match was all square, therefore the final pair had to play extra holes to determine a result. Lady Captain, Ruth Reynard secured the win at the first extra hole and Bungay move on to the next round.

Captains Drive In 2016

MIKE DRIVES IN AS CAPTAIN FOR 2016

 

Following a Texas Scramble, members watched Men’s Captain, Mike Haslam take his drive-in and despite an excess of noise he held his concentration to hit the ball 187 yards.

The Texas Scramble was won by Sam Cooper, Belinda Rowe, Steve Rowe and Mike Copsey.


Cancer Research UK benefit from Lady Captains Charity Events

At the end of her year as Lady Captain, Colly Muttitt took great pleasure in presenting a cheque for £6148 – 46 for Cancer Research UK . The money was raised through various events, her Drive-In at the beginning of her year, a charity Golf Day, a Handbag Party and being sponsored to play 54 holes of golf in one day with her Vice –Captain.

The photo shows Colly presenting the cheque to Gary Bennett, who works for Cancer Research UK, who was pleased to receive it reported that it was the largest single cheque he had received this year.

Bungay GC Veteran’s held their 2015 Invitation Day in good weather, once early light rain had cleared.

Captains Charity Day

On Friday 11th September, Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club held its annual Captain’s Charity Day, in aid of ‘BREAK’. The weather was glorious and 96 golfers took part. Even a ‘Go Go Dragon’ from Norwich flew in to support the event.   Mark Goff, the Captain, was delighted that approximately £2,500 was raised to help the charity ‘BREAK’ in it’s work with children and young people.

2015 Mixed Open at Bungay

 

Bungay & Waveney Valley Golf Club hosted their Mixed Open Event, with a good field playing for a Trophy for the Visitors and one for the Members. Despite a torrential shower during the afternoon, the scores were good. The winners of the Watts Salver, for visitors, were Jonathan Werrey-Easterbrook (Fynn Valley) and Pat Crissall (Woodbridge) with a score of 42points.
