ANNUAL JUNIOR OPEN AT SWAFFHAM - 20th August 2010
Jack Brister wins the Stewart Fretwell Trophy 2010

Swaffham Golf Club welcomed twenty three hopeful young golfers to its annual Junior Open on Friday 20th August. The event each year is dedicated to the memory of Stewart Fretwell, a young Assistant Pro at Swaffham who tragically died some years ago, with the trophy being donated by Stewart's family.

Youngsters from eleven Golf Clubs were represented, and the mixed field was a strong one - with low handicaps and low scores being in evidence on the day. The strong windy conditions presented a challenge to some, but all tried their best to achieve success.

Prizes were presented by Mick Ward - Swaffham Golf Club's Vice Captain, who welcomed the Junior players and their accompanying adults to the club and he congratulated everyone on their achievements.

Juniors 2nd v The Norfolk Golf & Country Club - 27 April 2008
Swaffham Junior 2nd team at the Norfolk

The second team juniors from Swaffham and The Norfolk Golf Clubs joined up on Sunday 27th April for their annual match. The fixture is aimed at giving young players, who are working towards their adult handicaps ,an opportunity to refine their skills, develop experience in a friendly but competitive environment, and to put aspects of the rules and golfing etiquette into practice. The match was played in a very sportsman like way and was thoroughly enjoyed by all. This year The Norfolk emerged as the winners with some significant performances. The star of the Swaffham team was Vincent Clark, aged just 8, who achieved his first birdie ever on the 9th hole and went on to win his match. Gordon Smith and Margaret Watson Junior organisers from the two clubs were delighted with the day and look forward to the rematch in 2009.

Dan Thurston our new Junior Captain celebrated the beginning of his year with a special competition and Drive In. Dan has chosen EACH (East Anglian Children's Hospices) as his charity and he raised the goodly sum of £101 from his drive in. An excellent drive saw his ball winging its way 239 yards, with Frank Briston being the lucky winner. Many thanks to everyone who supported Dan's day. The competition that followed was in two divisions, for those with handicaps and those still working towards one.
