Seniors Victory in 2008 Inter Club Cup - 14th July 2008

On Monday 14th July Stowmarket Golf Club were hosts for the annual Seniors Inter-Club Tournament, which is played between eleven clubs from Essex and Suffolk. Playing against Stowmarket on their own course proved to be too much of a challenge for the visitors, with Stowmarket just pipping Ipswich for the team prize and with two Stowmarket players, John Bell and Pat Jacklin, posting the best individual scores. Pat's haul of 39 points was impressive but fell short of John's classy 42 points. All four Nearest The Pin prizes were, however, won by visiting players. Club Captain Ron Ion presented the prizes, thanking the tournament organisers for their efforts in his own inimitable way.

CAPTAINS WEEKEND - July 2008

194 members entered the competitions for the Captain's Weekend contributing £388 towards the Captains Charity which is 'The Oncology Unit at Ipswich Hospital' .
Ron Ion, the Club Captain, was delighted with the support from members of the club. He and his wife Glenda manned the 'half way house' where sausage rolls baked by Glenda and a variety of drinks were available to members.
The weather held fair for the weekend which everyone thoroughly enjoyed.
Full results of all the competitions can be found on the results page.

Welcome to Stowmarket - 23rd June 2008
Warm welcome for new members 2008

New members who joined the club this year were invited to play golf with the clubs board members by club Captain Ron Ion. Played over the old nine holes the teams were made up of 1 board member and two new members a stableford competion with the best two scores on each hole to count
The Vice Captains team took the honours with a great score of 42 points.
The two new members scored very well. Richard Smith (14 handicap) 18 points and Ray Fenning (he won't be 28 for long) with 20 points.
A typical Stowmarket Fish and Chip supper was followed by a great deal of hilarity with THE KEN COOPER QUIZ NIGHT, some doubted Ken's question about Jack Nicklaus and his major wins Ken said 20 but the oracle says 18 but Ken stuck to his guns as usual just to let the Captains team win a prize.
Another great Golf and Social Event at Stowmarket Golf Club and we wish good golfing to all our new members.

Class of 2008..... 29th & - 30th March 2008

Ron Ion, the new Club Captain of Stowmarket Golf Club drove in in stlye on Saturday 30th March 2008 cheered on by a great horde of supportive members.
The day could well have turned nasty if it had not have been for the experienced retired Head Teacher Ron's control of some exceptionally unruly pupils. Diffidence was unquestionably not the tone of the day from these loud, and quite frankly scruffy, children that should have known better. Their attire and poor attitude was wholly inappropriate for the day and they were summoned to the Head Teachers office and had to stay behind after the event. Even more shocking was the fact that the troublemakers were the President of the club Lionel "Dippy" Denny, Past Captains', Ken " Cocky" Cooper, Pat " Jolly" Jacklin, Vic " The Gregarious " French and incredibly the Seniors Captain Brian "Should have known better" Lummis.
Ron drove in twice, once with a hickory shafted club (possibly a "Baffy") that he proudly boasted was even older than he was. Taking the ball of of the a mound of sand in the traditional way the ball travelled 85 yards the prize for guessing the distance of this drive went to Ron Nunn. The main "Drive In" went a sweet 184 yards and 2 feet and was guessed by "Jolly Jacklin"
Ron provided drinks and a running buffet for the attendees, a great start to Ron's year " Good Luck Ron" for the year ahead we hope you enjoy it.

The Captains Drive In Results were as follows:

Lady Captain - 7th November 2007

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Stowmarket Golf Club Ladies Section held their Annual General
Meeting on 7th November 2007 at which Mo Lloyd was inaugurated
as the new Ladies Captain for the coming year. Several new
committee members and officers were also elected. Afterwards,
with great enthusiasm and concentration, Mo successfully
managed to complete her ‘drive in’ in style. Linda Gilham won
the prize for estimating the new Captain’s drive – which was some way down the fairway.
For her forthcoming term of office Mo has chosen
Cancer Support at Ipswich Hospital as her designated charity
