Golf News - Juniors
Stowmarket Golf Club has had a thriving friendly junior section for many years. Many of our juniors have gone on to represent Suffolk and in 2009 one of our Juniors, Patrick Spraggs represented England. With the fantastic practice facilities and great PGA Professional coaching from Duncan Burl and John Markham this is the ideal club for juniors to develop their skills.
These pages will keep you informed of all future events and everything you need to know.
From 2012 the Joint Organisers of the Junior Section are Beverly Waspe and Kenton Jameson. Please feel free to contact them with any questions about the junior section.

STOWMARKET JUNIORS CHRISTMAS FUN DAY
The Juniors played 13 holes in teams of three, having to putt out by using the club like a snooker cue, bowling the ball or putting backwards through their legs. They also played a cross country hole from the 9th tee to the 10th green. Once indoors chips and drinks were enjoyed by all then pin the antler on the reindeer and putt the pig in the poke was played with a great competitive but festive spirit! Lots of chocolate later everyone had a dip in the bag for a present from Santa (played so well by Terry). It was a really great day! A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE!!

LADIES V JUNIORS 11.8.11
As usual, this fixture produced some great golf and some very close matches. We had a very good turn out with 35 players and nine matches being played. Well done to Alex Davey for taking on the challenge of playing on his own and winning his match! The trophy was won by the Juniors 6 – 3. It’s really good to hear all the compliments being paid to the Juniors on their golf skills and their conduct – you are a credit to the club and I’m very proud to be one your organisers! Even though I played on the losing side today I still feel like I won!
Move The Flag
Well done to the 14 players who took part in the Move the Flag competition on tuesday 9th August. 5 players had to go down the 19th with Joe Chalk coming out the winner with 3 shots remaining. Jack Forgan was the runner up.
Joe has lost 2 shots and is now down to 18 - congratulations Joe!
The Juniors played against Rushmere on Friday 29th July in a friendly match. Stowmarket Juniors coming out on top with a 3 1/2 to 1 1/2 win. Two of the games were decided on the last hole so the game was a lot closer than the score might reflect.
Jack Forgan was Captain for the day and did very well with his Speech. It was a return match with them which will be an annual fixture from now on. On Monday 1st August the Juniors travelled to Ufford for a friendly match. Stowmarket was able to take 12 players with the help of June Morton and Dick Taylor on the day, big thanks to them.
On arrival it soon became clear that Ufford only had 6 players not 12
because
of late call offs.
Owen Clouting was Captain for the day as normal he only has a few more weeks before he moves over for the new Captian to take over.

A close match that ended in defeat for Stowmarket 3 1/2 to 2 1/2 with the match being decided on the final putt on the 18th green.

Bev's and Terry's Fun Team Challenge
February 22nd saw 26 juniors play in Bev's and Terry's Fun Team Challenge. This was a great turn out, teams were drawn out by Amanda Davies and 7 groups of four set out to do battle. We played greensomes stableford, making the team with the most points collectively the winner. Terry and Henry and Bev and Holly lead the way. It was nip and tuck to the very end with Terry's team just squeaking a win with 155 point to Bev's Team on 144. Thanks to everyone who played for making the day a success. We hope to have another fun match later in the year.
Stowmarket Juniors V Burghley Park Juniors 27.10.10
Ten juniors from Stowmarket travelled to Burghley Park for a friendly match against a team of their juniors. It was a great day weatherwise and we were made to feel really welcome. The course was in good condition and our juniors enjoyed the experience of playing somewhere new. The match outcome was a 3-2 win for Burghley Park but it was a close run thing. We look forward to the return match next October at Stowmarket.
PS Bev and Terry played a 9 hole match - sorry Terry, you were 2nd!! Hee Hee!!

Congratulations to Owen Clouting on becoming the new Junior Boy Captain Owen takes over from George Gilbert, who has to step down due to outside commitments. Our thanks go to George for his efforts last year and we wish him every success in the future.
Junior Match Report Friendly v Rushmere 30.7.10 Rushmere brought a team of eight and 4 matches of 4 ball better ball went out. It was a very close match and in the end the result of 2 all was a fair reflection of the games. There were two amazing holes - Jude Everitt from Stowmarket had a nett eagle on the 7th, hitting a great 9 iron from the rough and holing it! A Rushmere player eagled the 16th, sinking a 160 yard second shot!
June 1st was the Clear Putter competition and it was won by Adam Parkins he
was the only Junior who played under his handcap but still played well even
with the rain falling all afternoon.

Junior Match Report 15.4.10
A team of six juniors and two reserves travelled to Rushmere Golf Club to play Rushmere juniors in the first round of the Suffolk Junior Team Handicap Cup. The team consisted of Henry Cutting, Casha Nijhawan, Owen Clouting, Sam O’Doherty, Adam Parkins and Elliot Stock. Reserves were Angus Chisholm and Giles Buck. It was a bright, windy and cool day and the gorse was waiting! The Rushmere side enjoyed the “Home” advantage and managed to keep their Stowmarket opponents at bay. The final result was Rushmere 5 – Stowmarket 1. The two Stowmarket reserves enjoyed playing FourBallBetterBall against the two Rushmere reserves. Fingers crossed for a home draw or two next year!
Well done to everyone who took part
Junior Match Report 8.4.10
A team of four juniors and three reserves travelled to Aldeburgh Golf Club to play Aldeburgh juniors in the first round of the Suffolk Junior Club Team Championship. The team consisted of Angus Chisholm, Giles Buck, Jack Forgan and Eleanor Tindall. Reserves were Henry Cutting, Casha Nijhawan and Owen Clouting. The team found the course to be tough with the need to stay straight from the tee, if not, the gorse was waiting! The greens were fast and a lot larger than the greens at Stowmarket. A creditable performance from all players was unable to overcome a strong home team with the final score being Aldeburgh 97 – Stowmarket 81. The reserves enjoyed 18 holes on the 9 hole course with Owen managing to win their “in house” competition.
TEXAS SCRAMBLE - 21ST MARCH The day started with the Juniors meeting the new organisers for the Juniors 2010 Bev & Terry.
We had 14 Juniors taking part in the Texas Scramble (6 holes) on the 21st March the winners were Charlie Jones, Alex Davey, Matthew O'Doherty and Jude Everitt.
It was a very close event with them winning by 1 shot overall, they were 1 shot under after 6 holes.
Jude Everitt also won the nearest the pin on the 18th hole.
The group photo was taken before the game started in very sunny and warm conditions making it very pleasant for the afternoon competition.
Bev and Terry were helped with the organisation for the day by Wendy Southgate, Chris Parker and some of the mums and dads, many thanks to them all.
One of the photos is of the first Group waiting to go out Chloe Holcombe, Aran O'Doherty and Josh Cantwell were under lots of pressure when they teed off with everyone watching them, no problem all their tee shots went down the middle of the course.
Many thanks
Bev /Terry
