Stowmarket Golf Club is found on the western outskirts of Stowmarket at Lower Road Onehouse.

A pretty parkland course established at its current home since the early 60’s. The club has been in existence since 1902.

The 18 hole course measuring 6114 yards from the White tees, par 69 with a Standard Scratch of 70, it is not a long course by any means but due to the small greens it is still a challenge. The current course record is 64. The River Rat meanders through the centre of the course coming into play on the 2nd par 3 hole which you have to play over the River to a well protected green and the 5th hole one of the best holes on the course where the Rat runs parallel to the fairway on the left hand-side from tee to green for 400 yards. The river has enhanced the courses reputation as a wet course unfairly in our opinion. You are however recommended to check the course condition after an exceptionally heavy downpour.

The Club has a great PGA Professional in Jon Markham with a well-stocked shop and very reasonable rates for lessons. In the clubhouse you will find a good selection of guest beers and bar food available each lunchtime. For many years the club had a waiting list for membership but that was in the past and in recent years they have had to advertise membership deals like a number of other clubs. Although there is a joining fee this is substantially lower than in previous years.

Summing up the experience at Stowmarket it is not Wentworth or Gleneagles and never will be but it is a good club to visit if you happen to be in the middle of Suffolk requiring a reasonable round of golf.
