Wolverhampton Cricket Club

Wolverhampton Cricket Club, located in Tettenhall is the oldest sports club in Wolverhampton, dating back to 1835.

Our Club played at various grounds around Wolverhampton before moving to its current site in 1890. Through the kind generosity of Mrs Swindley, whose family owned much of the green belt we see today in Tettenhall, the land was bequested to the Club in 1940, on the understanding that cricket was played there in perpetuity. 

The Club boasts having had some of the past “greats” play on the ground, including in 1911 a match between GE Jessop’s XI and HD Stratton’s Wolverhampton XI. Playing in this game were such luminaries as WG Grace and probably the best Staffordshire cricketer the county has ever produced, Sidney Barnes. A photograph of the players in this match is proudly displayed in the Clubhouse.

It now boasts a modern clubhouse rebuilt in 2007, with exceptional and spacious facilities.

We host 5 senior teams, 11 junior teams, 2 female teams and a visually impaired team and there is an active social membership of 150, which has grown by 20% this season.

Tettenhall Tennis Club is also situated in our ground, which has a playing and social membership and 3 football teams play on our site in the winter.

South Staffs Golf Club is situated directly opposite our premises, with whom we have a supportive relationship.

As well as providing teams with cricket teas during the season, the club caters for up to 100 diners seated for Sunday lunches.

In addition there are regular Rotary and Probus lunches, christenings, weddings, birthday parties, social events {both private and organised by the club,} sports events and wakes.

We have the main club measuring approximately 30m x  10m, which can be partitioned off to create 2 rooms, this contains the bar and both overlook the main cricket pitch. There are also 2 further rooms that can be self contained for private events or used as a larger room which also overlooks the main cricket pitch.

Ashburnham Golf Club is a friendly, private members club, situated in Carmarthenshire, in South Wales.  The Club was established in 1894 and is currently ranked 5th in Wales by Golf World magazine.  A classic links course which has been host to numerous high level tournaments throughout its history.

The Club is inviting suitably qualified candidates to apply for this position. 

The potential bidder(s) should be able to demonstrate their ability to provide a quality service for members and visitors alike within a Golf Club environment. 

We would expect the successful bidder to be able to provide:

  • A full restaurant service for members and non-members, offering freshly prepared food benefitting from the premium venue;
  • A full catering service for member and non-member functions including: weddings; anniversaries; private parties; conferences; wakes and theme nights;
  • A full catering service for all golf club related social functions including club matches and visiting society days;
  • A full bar service;
  • Hot and Cold bar snacks and breakfasts.

The ideal candidate(s) should:

  • Be experienced in providing the Bar and Catering Operations;
  • Be commercially minded with a track record of developing the business;
  • Be innovative and creative to ensure the club thrives in a highly competitive environment;
  • Have the ability and business acumen to expand the Catering Operation and increase revenues and profitability;
  • Want to work in partnership with the club;
  • Have excellent communication skills;
  • Be flexible in terms of man-power, to cope with the fluctuating demands of the membership and visitors;
  • Have a proven record of Food Hygiene and compliance with Safety Standards with working experience of all relevant regulations;
  • Have high personal and professional standards and be able to demonstrate an attention to detail and excellent customer service;
  • Be compliant with all pertinent employment regulations relating to its staff and have a proven track record in the management of its staff.
  • Possess the necessary licences for providing the Bar and Catering services.

The successful candidates will be responsible for the management of the day to day running of the Clubhouse bar facilities.  We offer a fully equipped kitchen, with a small restaurant overlooking the Gower peninsula which has a dining capacity of 60, a lounge with seating for 30+ and a function room catering for up to 100+ people.

What We Require

The Ideal Candidate

  • Will have experience of function catering.

The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, passionate about good service, hard working with excellent communication skills. Have the ability to deputise in the absence of the Head Steward and be able to manage the cellar in respect of ordering and weekly line cleaning.

Own transport preferable due to location.

Must be able to work a variety of shifts INCLUDING evenings and weekends. Flexibility is essential for this role. Be security conscience, as will be required to open or close the premises dependant on shifts which will include the cashing up of tills.
