Kelvin Vince is the PGA Professional at Rushmere Golf Club. He was appointed at the beginning of 2004 when he moved from local Suffok club Fynn Valley, where he had two spells, initially as an assistant to Robin Mann in the early 1990's and another as head professional in 1999.
Kelvin started his golf as a junior member at Rushmere in 1985 and within three years was a single figure handicap player. He was Junior Captain in 1989, represented the county extensively at junior level and was mens club champion at Rushmere in 1991 and 1992.
Kelvin is a well known character around the local golfing scene and has played tournament golf to high standard including victories in the 1996 Suffolk Professional Matchplay Championship, 1998 Suffolk Open Foursomes and 1999 East Anglian Daily Times Grand Challenge. Other notable performances on the larger stages include 4 times reaching the final qualifying stages of the British Open and in 2005 winning the East Region final of the Lombard Trophy and a top 6 finish in the East Anglian Open. His career low round to date is an eight under par 65 at Selsdon Park which was the first round leader in the 1996 Saab London Open. His proudest golfing moment was becoming Captain of the Suffolk PGA for 2008 and 2009.
Membership of the Foremost buying group means that the shop stocks many of the leading brands at the lowest available prices. Customer service is vitally important and as accredited custom fitters for Titleist, Cobra and Wilson we offer a free of charge fitting service. Full ranges of clothing, shoes, bags and accessories are also in stock and gift vouchers are available as great present ideas. Shaun Masterson, who has worked for Kelvin in the shop for several years, has now turned professional and begun his PGA training, is an expert in equipment technology and all the new innovations.
Kelvin specialises in coaching players of all abilities from beginners to elite level with some pupils now being recognised at national squad level. In addition to this Kelvin is proud to have coached the Suffolk U14's boys squad since 1999 and through this squad have progressed several players who have gone on to achieve international honours. Coaching, however, is all about adaptability and last year Kelvin was part of a two man team that delivered one of England's largest disability golf projects to young adults with a broad spectrum of both physical and learning disabilities. Kelvin's ethos for coaching has always been one of coaching the player rather than make a set method 'fit'. It is always important to work within a players physical limitations whilst still challenging them to reach their goals. Video analysis helps enormously with this process and is regularly used in his sessions.
