Match Report - Moreton Hall 3 v Risbygate

Monday 18th February 2019 saw the local Squash Derby, between Moreton Hall and the Risbygate Squash Club, being competitively played at Moreton Hall, as part of the Suffolk and Essex Squash Winter Leagues, in Division III.

The No 5 string for Risbygate, Aubrey Prout, started slowly against Brian Cameron managing to secure the first two games 15/13 and then reduced the number of errors to gain the third game 15/10.

The 4th string, Tim Holt, settled into playing some consistently good squash against Martin Shelley, whose straight arm squash stroke did cause some confusion in the first game. Tim went onto win the rubber 3 v 1.  Gavin Brown, at No 3, played some hard hitting shots which caused his opponent, Adrian Lindfield, to play a number of errors leading to Gavin winning the first two games, 12 v 15.  In the 3rd game, Gavin forged ahead to lead 14 v11 before losing concentration and losing 16/14.  This spurred a revival with both Gavin and Adrian trading keen shots/drops and a variety of Squash strokes with Gavin ultimately gaining the upper hand to win 15 v12.

The Risbygate’s 2nd string, Lawrence Chapman, proved too strong for one of Moreton Halls’ rising young Squash players, Matt Bartley, and secured a 3 v 0 victory, 11 v15,  9 v15 and 9 v15.

Martin Levens, Risbygates’ Squash Club Coach and No 1 player, cruised to a victory  in straight games over Mike Brett, 9 v15, 5 v15 and 5v15.  Martin’s consistent lobs and lengths to the back of the court kept Mike busy retrieving the ball from both corners and from the back of the court.

Risbgygate scored a resounding overall victory of 5 v 0, to gain 18 valuable points.
