The Norfolk Golf & Country Club

Mens

The Norfolk Golf and Country Club has over the past few years built and continues to build its reputation as being one of the friendliest and most welcoming clubs in the county.

These comments apply to all sections, Mens, Ladies and Seniors. There is a strong club spirit which is evident in the non playing support for all the County competitions entered by each section.

The Ladies have had an extremely successful past 2 years, winning the Gillieson Trophy last year before bowing out in the Semis this year to the eventual winners.

Both divisional league teams won promotion this year, the second team making it consecutive years. And for the first time in the clubs history I am delighted to say the

Men, aided by a junior, won the Cullington Cup which is a County Foursomes Team competition. The Scratch League team qualified for the finals day again but unfortunately came home empty handed.

We are extremely lucky to have a very strong and developing Junior section which is coached by our excellent, and patient, professional Tony Varney. We all realise these youngsters are the future of the club and a considerable amount of time, money and effort is put into nurturing our potential "major" winners.

We have a very sociable, but also very competitive outlook, regarding mixed competitions. These have grown dramatically over the last few years and this forms a huge part of the welcoming atmosphere of the club. It is not uncommon for aspiring juniors to partner Ladies in the search for honours board recognition, and I'm not sure who asks who in some cases.

The club has different charities that benefit from various events throughout the year but none more than the local Childrens Hospice at Quidenham. This annual event has raised thousands over the years and even in these difficult economic times continues to be supported beyond belief, however we can never raise too much so if this is a charity close to your heart please look for details on the website as to how you could help.

I am extremely proud to have been given this position and would like to wish my fellow captains, Jane Sheppard and James Gregory all the very best for their year in office.
