The Norfolk Golf & Country Club is considered
to be one of the finest new courses in East Anglia. Built in
1993 and allowed to mature for two years before play commenced
on it, this new course meanders through more than 200 acres of
rolling Norfolk countryside, including ancient ditches, hedging
and woodland. The greens built to USGA specification are substantial,
with the 9th being over 1000 square yards. All the changes and
improvements have been made to ensure the course is testing but
fair to golfers of all ability.
There are many feature holes but of particular interest are
the par 3 4th hole and, par 4 5th hole where an accurate tee
shot is required as the fairway is split by a stream with out
of bounds to the left. The short par 4 8th hole offers a challenge
to the longer hitters, however beware the many hazards. Once
you have completed the front nine you will find that the back
nine becomes slightly easier, however, with the 12th, 14th and
15th holes still to come close study of this course guide is
recommended.
Within the grounds there is also a 'Golf Academy' which includes
a par 3 Course and Golf Range, tuition being available from the PGA Professional.
The friendly Clubhouse which offers excellent bar, restaurant
and retail services, is complimented by a leisure center
which includes a gymnasium, swimming pool, spa, sauna and the Beauty Rooms.
