Weston Plate

 

The Ladies played in the away leg of the Weston Plate against The Suffolk and won 3-2 matches. They now meet The Suffolk at home on Saturday 26 May.  Please come along and support the team.

Mail on Sunday

 

The Mail on Sunday team played in the 4th round of this national competition and lost on the last hole of the last match 3-2 matches.  The team included Junior member, Alice Barlow, now playing off a handicap of 10, won her match, as did Emily Penfold.  Each year we reach a further round so here’s to the 5th round in 2013.

Daily Mail Foursomes

 

Liz Ward and Sue Thurgate won the second round of the national Daily Mail Foursomes competition by 2 against Denise Irving and Jane Molins of the Channels and are now through to the third round.

 

 

 

Annual Ladies Dinner

 

45 Ladies attended the annual Ladies Dinner held in The Clubhouse. The speaker was Alan Vince whose association with the Club goes back many years.  Alan gave a brief history of the Club with a few jokes to the delight of the members.

 

Norma Humphrey was presented with her EWGA badge for the four best medal rounds during the year.  Norma will now be representing the Club in the EWGA Eastern regional medal final to be held at John ‘o’ Gaunt Golf Club in Bedfordshire.

 

 

 

Suffolk Senior Shield

 

Newton Green Ladies lost to Rushmere away in the first round of this new Suffolk County 4 ball better ball competition by 20 holes.

Di's Away Night - Manor Of Groves

 

36 lady members spent a wonderful overnight stay and two rounds of golf at this lovely venue. The weather was like summer so looking for balls in the many ditches and ponds was soon forgotten. The sun was only eclipsed by planes coming into Stansted. The results were:

Mail On Sunday - We're Through To The Fourth Round

 

In a thrilling match against Gosfield, Newton Green Ladies won the third round of this national trophy 4 - 1, all games going on to the 17/18th hole.

Annual Coffee Morning

 

The annual Coffee Morning raised the fantastic sum of £870 which is used to help run the Ladies Section.  This would not be possible without the support of, not only the ladies, but all members.

 

A list of prize winners is on the social notice board in the Clubhouse and in ladies changing room.

 

 

 

Daily Mail Foursomes

 

Liz Ward and Sue Thurgate played in the first round of the Daily Mail Foursomes national competition and are through to the second round beating Sue King and Beverly Shand from Bury St Edmunds 5 & 4.

 

 

 

Mail on Sunday

 

Congratulations to our Mail on Sunday team who beat The Essex last Saturday in the first round of this national competition.  In a very nail biting match Team Captain, Claire, sunk her putt on the 18th to give her and the team a win by 3 games to 2.  We wait to see who we meet in the second round.

Ladies Christmas Match, Lunch and Whacky Hat Competition - 6th December

 

An array of hats to beat any Ladies Day at Ascot.

Ladies Open

 

Newton Green Golf Club Ladies Section recently held their annual Ladies Open when 17 teams from the area took part with a Strictly Come Dancing Cha Cha Cha format.

Delaney Scramble

 

The Ladies Section started off the Club’s Festival Week with a Delaney Scramble when over 80 members, covering all sections of the Club, took part. The results were|:

The Ladies Section recently held their Annual Guest Day when members and friends played an18 hole Four Ball Better Ball Competition when the dull weather did not spoil the fun or the high scores.  The match was  followed by lunch.

Old and Bold Challenge Trophy

 

Recently the Club’s Old and Bold and the Ladies Sections competed for the Old and Bold Challenge Trophy. This was over 9 holes followed by lunch.  The Ladies Section won 39 holes to 24 holes to retain the trophy.

 

 

 

 

County Stearn Competition

 

The Newton Green Ladies have won the Preliminary round of the County Stearn Competition away at Thorpeness by 2 matches to 1. They now play Stowmarket away on Monday 4 July. The team members were Di Cunningham (Captain), Claire Aldous, Liz Ward, Margaret Hills, Sally Cade and Jennie Leech.

 

Having been promoted to the First Division of the County Weston Competition, Newton Green Ladies have played their four matches, home and away, against Southwold and Bury St Edmunds. They won 5 of the 20 singles games and now wait to see where they stand in Division 1 when all teams have completed their matches. The team members who have played one or more matches were Claire Aldous (Captain), Di Cunningham, Eloise Aldous, Liz Ward, Sally Cade, Norma Humphrey, Jennie Leech, Marion Glumart and Janet Sparks.

 

Newton Green Ladies’ Captain, Jill Symonds, recently held her Captain’s Day with the usual revelry, fun and of course the decorated buggy depicting Jill’s sponsored trek to Machu Picchu and her becoming a Granny for the first time. The decorating of the buggy was undertaken, as usual, by Norma Humphrey with help from the Ladies’ Vice Captain, Di Cunningham. Despite being plied with cakes and sparkling wine 43 ladies managed to play an 18 hole four ball better ball Stableford competition with 6 taking part in a nine hole competition.

Cranworth Competition

 

Newton Green Ladies played the preliminary round of the Cranworth Competition against Stowmarket at The Suffolk.  A nail biting finish saw Stowmarket win 24 ½ to 20 ½. 

 

Mary Jenkins was the team captain once again. 

 

 

 

Annual 36 Hole Club Championship

 

Twenty ladies participated in the annual 36 hole Club Championship on a blustery day which made play difficult at Newton Green Golf Club. 

 

The results for the gross and nett scores were:

 

Ann Tankard Trophy for Lowest Gross Score:  Sally Cadse 183; Eloise Aldous 183; Claire Aldous 184.

 

Emmie Hoar Trophy for best nett score:  Patricia Havers 146; Emily Penfold 147; Liz Ward 148.

 

This year saw the introduction of a new Stableford Trophy to be played on the same day but over 18 holes.  The winner was Sue Thurgate with 34 pts.

Newton Green Junior, Eloise Aldous, has recently cut her handicap from 18 to 14 when playing in the Stoke by Nayland Junior Open.  Eloise played 10 under her handicap in the second round of this 36 hole competition.

 

 

 

England v Scotland

 

The Ladies recently held their annual England v Scotland match.  The rivalry was intense but a United Nations Peacekeeping force was not required as the match ended in a draw, 51/2 points to each team.
