Tee Times General Play

PLEASE NOTE

At the recent Committee Meeting, it was decided that Monday to Friday general play MUST be from the Yellow Tees. The White tees will be for competition only during the week.
This course was designed with large yellow (general play) tees and small white (competition) tees. The excess use of the White tees in the past has meant that the tees are moved forward, to somewhere near the yellow markers, to try and protect the main white areas. This has had some effect but the white tees are still very weak.
Colin, is fully behind this move as he feels moving the weekday wear to the Yellow tees will enable him to produce better quality white tees, and for the white tees to remain at their qualifying length.
The yellow tees due to their larger size will be able to better cope with this extra wear, and will be moved around accordingly.
Your help and understanding during this year is appreciated

Summer Matchplay Draws

2012 MATCHPLAY DRAW FOR RAMSDEN, SCRATCH & CAPTAINS' SALVER

As always please try to arrange your matches early, and responsibility rests with both parties.

Congratulations Eric

EVERYONE ENVIOUS OF ERIC'S EAGLE

Congratulations to Eric Taylor who, at the ripe old age of rather quite a lot, has managed to hole out in 2 shots at our long 14th.

If anyone else has achieved such newsworthy feats at the Club or indeed at any Club at which he/she has been a member and are happy to have them publicised on our website, please let Matthew in the Office know. Personally, years ago, I had consecutive 2s on 10 and 11 and once, sadly, dispatched a pigeon that was minding its own business on the end of the 12th tee when i drove off. D.I

New Captains' Drive In

THE 2012 CAPTAINS' DRIVE IN.

A GLORIOUS LATE FEBRUARY MORNING SAW THE TRADITIONAL CAPTAIN’S “DRIVE IN” AT KING’S LYNN GOLF CLUB.

THE PROUD HOLDER’S OF THIS OFFICE FOR 2012 ARE, FOR THE LADIES SECTION, MRS JONNIE WORFOLK AND FOR THE MEN’S SECTION, MR DEREK STRINGER, WHO ALSO BECOMES THE CLUB CAPTAIN.

FORTIFIED BY A STIFF RELAXING DRINK AND A LARGE SUPPORTING CROWD, FIRST ON THE TEE WAS THE NORMALLY TEETOTAL JONNIE, WHO, WITH EASE AND GRACE AND GENERAL ALL ROUND SURPRISE, STRUCK HER DRIVE 166 YARDS STRAIGHT DOWN THE MIDDLE, A DISTANCE CORRECTLY GUESSED BY MRS PEGGY WEBSTER WHO WON A BOTTLE OF SCOTCH IN THE PROCESS.

WITH DEREK NEXT UP, THE CROWD FELL SILENT IN EAGER ANTICIPATION. EYEING THE BALL AS IF IT WAS PREY, THIS DECEPTIVELY ATHLETIC PERFORMER DREW HIMSELF UP TO HIS FULL HEIGHT, TOOK THE CLUB BACK...EVENTUALLY...THEN ONCE AGAIN CLEARLY DEMONSTRATED WHY ALL GOLFERS SHOULD TAKE OUT PUBLIC LIABILITY INSURANCE!

AS THE BALL TOOK A LOW RAKING TRAJECTORY DOWN THE LEFT HAND SIDE OF THE FAIRWAY, A GROUP OF SPECTATORS, OPTIMISTICALLY GATHERED 150 YARDS AWAY, SCATTERED IN ALARM. AS IS SO OFTEN THE CASE ON THESE OCCASIONS, THE SAFEST PLACE TO BE IS IN THE CENTRE OF THE FAIRWAY! EVEN SO THE DRIVE BOBBLED ON THROUGH THE TREES REACHING A RESPECTABLE 190 YARDS, WITH MR RICHARD FREEZER WINNING THE WHISKEY FOR CORRECTLY GUESSING THIS DISTANCE.

IN A CELEBRATORY COMPETITION HELD ON THE DAY FOR CLUB MEMBERS, THE RESULTS WERE:

    POINTS
WINNERS: CARL & LINDA PURDY 46
2nd PLACE: KEVIN & MICHAEL PLAYFORD 44
3rd PLACE PIP AND HELEN RIPPENGILL 42 (OCB: BACK 9 = 25)

OUR SINCERE BEST WISHES ARE EXTENDED TO JONNIE AND DEREK,

MAY THEY HAVE A HIGHLY SUCCESSFUL AND HAPPY YEAR!

Important Dates.......

Monday April 23rd – Friday April 27th
Colin will be doing extensive work to the greens this week.

 Monday June 18th – Friday June 22nd
Colin will be doing work to the greens during this week.

Wednesday August 22nd – Friday August 24th
Colin will be doing work to the greens during this week.
The degree of the work done to the course during these periods depends on the current Course conditions, weather conditions, and the level of work that the Colin feels is appropriate. It is a continuation of the green improvement programme that Colin has started upon. You may have already noticed the increased proportion of higher quality bent and fescue grasses within the greens.

Your cooperation during these times is greatly appreciated by Colin, myself and his staff. The benefits for all will be there to see over the coming years.

Why not take advantage of your county card and visit another Club whilst we are doing this work.

PGA Pro Am
KINGS LYNN TEAM SHOCKS GOLFING WORLD WITH PRO AM WIN!
PICTURE OF WINNING TEAM

From left to right Mike Timpson the Kings Lynn Professional, Derek Stringer, Vice Captain, Tim Arthur, Captain, and Paul Godfrey, team member. Also pictured to Paul’s left is Ian Ellis, winner of the professional prize and the 2011 Order of Merit title.

A team comprising Mike Timson, the Kings Lynn Golf Club professional, Tim Arthur, Club Captain, Derek Stringer, Club Vice Captain and Paul Godfrey, sent shock waves through the world of golf by winning the years final PGA Pro Am held at Kings Lynn Golf Club.

Teeing off with members expectations riding low, some four and a half hours later they had posted a score of 15 under par to win the multi-team event by one shot. Vice Captain Derek, the possessor of a great short game – pity it’s off the tee! – played a blinder, to help achieve an outcome even more unlikely than your author ever developing an over swing!

But seriously, the whole team played very well and the Club is proud of them.

Congratulations also to Ian Ellis who won the individual Professional’s prize shooting 69, securing in the process yet another annual Order of Merit title.
