Hunstanton is a championship links course on the North Norfolk coast overlooking The Wash. In terms of championships, it is the premier course in East Anglia. The Boys’ Amateur Championship has been held at Hunstanton twice (1990 and 2005), the English Amateur Strokeplay (Brabazon Trophy) five times, the British Ladies and English Amateur Championships six and three times respectively, as well as 24 other national events going back to 1914.

The Club was founded in 1891. Golf at Hunstanton is “traditional” in the best sense. The links are straight out and back on either side of a central “spine” or dune ridge. On a sunny day, the views out to sea or inland from the elevated tees at the 2nd, 5th, 11th and 16th holes are magnificent. The cavernous bunkers, undulating fairways and fast and true greens are typical of the best British links courses. Hunstanton is a two–ball course (only singles and foursomes play is permitted), so a round should take no longer than 31/2 hours; fourball play will be allowed from October 2005 on Tuesdays only, after 10.30 (until further notice). Dress on the course is also traditional — shirts with collars and long socks with knee–length shorts are required. The Clubhouse retains an Edwardian flavour. You will be warmly welcomed; hot and cold food and drinks are served. The course is not easy, so handicap certificates are required.

Hunstanton Golf Club is located at Old Hunstanton, 1 mile east of Hunstanton itself, on the A149 (the Club is signposted from this road), about 17 miles from King’s Lynn. Two other famous seaside courses in the vicinity (also on the A149) are Royal West Norfolk at Brancaster and Sheringham (7 and 35 miles east of Hunstanton. An additional attraction of golf at Hunstanton is the duneland grasses and flowers and the abundant birdlife along The Wash.
