Chris Wallace The Royal Norwich

One of the visiting competitors at the Bob Eade Mixed Foursomes had a day to remember when he had a hole in one at Bungay’s seventh hole.

Chris Wallace, a member of The Royal Norwich, achieved the feat using an eight iron.

A 14-handicapper, Chris provided the opportunity for other competitors to help him celebrate in the bar in the traditional manner.

Divine Intervention for Clergy Golf Society!

On Monday 17th July, 12 members of the Clergy Golf Society played an 18 hole competition at Fynn Valley and two scored a hole-in-one!

Chris Wingfield, Reverend of Sproughton, Copdock, Burstall, Belstead, Bentley & Tattingstone, shot his ace on the par-3 eighth hole to come third overall and David Barker, East Anglian advisor for Ecclesiastical Insurance, saw his tee shot go in the hole on the 6th.

The overall winner on the day was Fynn Valley Member, Rev. David Meikle.

Aces must be in the air at Fynn Valley ... in addition to the above, Fynn Valley member Kevin Hines shot a hole-in-one on the 146 yard 6th hole at Fynn Valley on Thursday 13th July, using an 8 iron.

An Ace by Chris from Diss!

Diss Golf Club Secretary Chris Wellstead had his first Hole in One at "Flempton" recently.

Chris says "I was playing with a friendly group at Flempton on Monday 5th of June using a six iron when I got my first hole in one at the 5th 142yds.

"I new it was going in the hole as soon as it left the club face - don't ask me how I new - I just knew! No insurance, but worth every penny."

Nigel Baines Bungay GC

Nigel Does it Again!

Nigel Baines, playing in the Bill Harding Texas Scramble on Saturday, scored a hole in one on the 147yd, par 3, 15th hole.

Using a seven iron in near perfect conditions, he helped his team members overall score in dramatic fashion.

This is Nigel's second hole-in-one on the 15th - last time it was a six iron!

In accepted fashion it was "drinks all round" courtesy of Nigel.

Tracy Kettle had a hole in one at the 2nd hole at Stowmarket Golf Club on Wednesday 13th July in the summer meeting. This is her second hole in one.

Kevin Blowers Bungay GC

Can you belive it?
Another hole - in - one at Bungay & Waveney Valley GC!

Kevin Blowers playing for Caldecott Hall against Bungay in the Norfolk and Suffolk Golf League, hit his very first hole-in-one on the 163 yard, par three 12th.

Using a 7 iron, his ball bounced twice before disappearing into the hole.

To celebrate, Kevin very generously treated all present in the Bungay clubhouse to a drink afterwards.

George Shearer Bungay GC

George Shearer, organiser of Veterans Wednesday Golf at Bungay, struck a well aimed 6-iron to achieve his first ever hole-in-one on the 147 yard 15th.

He was playing in the Mike O'Hara Cup, which proved more than an eerie coincidence.

Mike died some twelve years ago and George had been given his clubs by Mike's widow. In fact, George had sponsored the cup in the first place.

Are the par 3's at Bungay just too easy? This is the fourth hole-in-one in two weeks!

This is really becoming a habit - Jane does it again!

Lady member, Jane Holley, had her third hole in one in a year on Tuesday 26th April in the Newmarket Open at the Links Golf Club.

She took a driver on the 17th hole and thought that she had taken too much club as she couldnt see it!

She was playing with Beverley Waspe and they won the competition - well done to both of them and particularly Jane.

Alan Whiting Halesworth GC

Alan's Ace at Halesworth

Fifteen handicap Alan Whiting, playing in the Club April Stableford, recorded a hole-in-one at the par-3 fourth hole. His playing partners were Eddie Metcalfe and Richard Sivyer.

It was six month from the day that he last had a hole in one on the 17th October 2004.

They must be putting something in the water or the beer at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club, because what else could explain three holes in one in the same weekend?

Terry Sheldrake scored his on the 157 yard long par-3 15th hole with a four iron while playing in the Parks v Hambro team practise match.

Sixty three year old Terry has played at Bungay since 1988 and it was his first hole-in-one. Luckily he also captured the Club's £40 Charity Bonus Ball Draw that helped towards his drinks bill at the bar!

Octogenarian Tommy Richardson hit his ace on Saturday on the 156 yard 4th using a five wood.

Tommy has impaired vision and he explained that this was his second hole-in-one that he did not see into the cup! The first he knew of his feat was a shout of delight from his playing partners.

Seventy six year old David Avery, a member since 1969, struck his third hole-in-one on the 12th a 156 yard par three with a 4 iron.

David plays off 28 and received some ribbing from his playing companions suggesting he was a bit of a bandit (!) and that his handicap should be re-examined.

Jane Holley had her second hole-in-one on the 11th hole on Thursday 25th November, using a 4 iron.

Jane had a hole-in-one earlier in the year on the second hole.

She duly bought the drinks in the clubhouse. The whisky went down very well!

Alan Whiting Halesworth GC

October 2004.

Mr. Alan Whiting, a 14-handicapped golfer, had a hole-in-one in the recent October Stableford competition at Halesworth Golf Club.

It was on the 156 yard 11th hole, and Alan used an 8-iron. His playing partners who witnessed this feat were eddie Metcalfe and Richard Sivyer.

One of the Peterborough Milton Golf Club's Juniors, Matt Thorpe, aged 15, had a hole in one at the 156 yard, par 3, 9th hole at the home course on Sunday 8th August during the Club Championship.

To celebrate his success, Matt was presented with a dozen golf balls at the presentation evening by Club Captain, Colin Phillips.

Mr Ray Beaumont, Vice Captain, of Bungay and Wavney Valley Golf Club scored a hole-in-one on Saturday 7th August on the 4th hole at Bungay.

He was playing in a friendly mixed match against Gorleston GC, when he decided to take his 7 wood on the 4th which is 156 yards. There was a stong side wind and he was playing directly into the sun.

Ray is a 12 handicap golfer and this was his 3rd hole-in-one. The others were on our 7th par 3 and while playing in a match at Dunston Hall.

Some golfers can spend a lifetime playing without ever scoring that elusive hole-in-one but not Peter Williams - he has managed two in 2004.

On Sunday the 3rd July Peter, playing with his usual group scored his second hole-in-one in six months. Following up his achievement in January this year he used a seven-wood from the competition tee on the 156 yard 4th hole.

Peter, a Member of Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club since 1982 said “I was amazed to see the ball disappear into the hole - I just did not think it would ever happen again, let alone twice in the same year!”

Lees Watson Cup
June 2004.

Playing in the Lees Watson Cup earlier this month, Thelma scored her first Hole-in-One.

Thelma, past Lady Captain and past President of the Ladies Section, has been playing golf for many years. This was her first 'ace' and it was scored on the longest par three hole, the 7th, some 156 yards, using a 3 - wood.

Sunday 7th March 2004.

A great day for Stowmarket Pro Jon Markham,who not only won the the professional prize with a fine 3 under score of 67 as he also had his first ever hole-in-one on the 7th, a 177 yard par three hole.

He did this using a 5 Iron (selected so he said, by his partner Dave Daniel also of Stowmarket) played with a high draw; one bounce and it was in the hole.

With the Haverhill course finally back in play after the recent spate of snow, Dave Perrett acheived a hole in one during the qualifying round to find a pair to represent the club in the Daily Mail Foursomes.

A nine iron shot at the 119 yards 8th hole carried the pin and spun back into the hole for an ace.

Kay Hazell achieved a hole in one on Stowmarket Ladies Day on the 2nd Hole, 139 yard par 3 using a driver.

Playing conditions were wet cold and miserable. Playing partners Jane Wincer and Magaret Arbin, who witnessed this amazing feat, made so much noise in their shouts of congratulations that others on the course were concerned that someone had perhaps fallen into the river!

Kay Stood the usual bar tab upon her return to the clubhouse - Bucks Fizz for the ladies and a large single malt for the secretary.

Peter Williams, a member of Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club since 1982, scored his first hole-in-one on Sunday 11th January 2004.

In gusty conditions, and playing in a friendly fourball, he used a 6 iron to score his ace on the 167 yard 12th hole.
