Ladies Report 16th May 2011
Having laboured through the winter months suffering snow rain and ice, the Ladies’ Winter Eclectic Competition was finalised this week. A special award ceremony, involving The President, Vice President and the Lady Captain was arranged to make presentations to the winners:
1st Division Winner: Gill Smith : Nett 57.5
Runner up Velda Gillespie : Nett 64.5
2nd Division Winner: Jan Cherry : Nett 68
Runner up Val Page : Nett 70.5
Middlesex Golf Competitions
Several members entered the two Middlesex meetings, unfortunately without much success, except in the raffles and long driving competition at the Bronze meeting by Jackie Court.
This week again sees a busy schedule for the Ladies as we host our special Invitation Day, the final of the Hare & Hounds takes place, weekend stableford competition and play Chorleywood on Monday.

BANK HOLIDAY WEEKEND
THURSDAY 28TH APRIL
Ladies’ Spring Meeting was heralded with the first cold and windy weather since records began (in March). A good turn out for the two competitions - in the morning – two ball and afternoon greensomes.
The day ended with sumptuous food provided by the caterers and presentations by Lady Captain Mary Dokelman and Secretary Sue O’Sullivan to winners, not only of the day’s competitions, but also outstanding prizes and awards from previous competitions.
FRIDAY 29TH APRIL
To celebrate the Public Holiday and of course the Royal Wedding, the Ladies held a fun competition to celebrate – slightly different scoring from the norm, i.e. double points on par 5s (Royal)and three points for a one putt (Union Jacks). Good fun was had by all on the day, which was won by Jackie Court with Gill Smith Runner up and Jan Cherry third.
SATURDAY 30TH APRIL
Gill Smith - weekend Captain put out a side in a friendly against our local rivals Northwood at their Club. Another change of format saw the team playing 4 ball better ball. The day resulted in a resounding success for the Ladies 3-1. We repaired to the balcony in the spring sunshine and sympathised with the opposition over their loss…
MONDAY 1ST MAY
The usual bank holiday fayre – the Club put on a 75th Anniversary Mixed Foursomes competition – followed by drinks and yet again great food in the evening. The force 7 gale force winds affected most couples, but the sturdy partnership of Graham Breaden and Sue O’Sullivan won the trophy – congratulations to them both. The O’Sullivan household was not a place to be that evening, as Sean O’Sullivan, partnered by Jackie Court only came in joint second with Alan Hymns & Jan Cherry. Sean did say he was very proud of his wife – through gritted teeth..

THE PEARSON TROPHY 2011
Grim's Dyke Ladies Team always knew that their draw in this year's competition would be a
tough one with Hendon, Muswell Hill ,Bush Hill Park, and Wyke Green in the same Divisionwith
matches to be played on a home and away basis.
How right we were! With 7 of our 8 matches completed we know that we will not qualify for
the County semi-finals.
The sqad of players from which the 7 team players were selected has given newer members
as well as seasoned campaigners the opportunity to experience singles match·play in very
competitive conditions and promises well for our entry in 2012.
Members who have represented Grim's Dyke in 2011: Jan Bradshaw, Alma Breaden, Jan
Cherry, Jackie Court, Kathy de Lacy, Velda Gillespie, Gay Hawkes, Joyce Howard, Sue Nash,
Sue O'Sullivan, Valerie Page, and Sylvia Thornton.
RESULTS : v Hendon away lost 6-1 home lost 6-1
V Bush Hill Park away lost 6-1 home won 7-0
V Muswell Hill away lost 7-0 home lost 5-2
V Wyke Green away t .b.p. home lost 4-3

Pearson Captain 2011.
How fantastic has the weather been over the last few weeks – time to brush off the cobwebs and hone those golfing skills for the summer ahead.
Good Friday saw the Ladies Committee take on the Men’s Committee – which the Ladies lost – but a great day was had by all followed by dinner and drinks in the restaurant – fabulous food, as usual, served up by the caterers.
Saturday 23rd April – Good golfing weather – again – plenty of people putting in good scores – and an evening celebration and party as Mrs Doreen Belcher, member, ex lady captain and still playing extremely good golf, celebrated her 80th birthday – well done Doreen.
Easter Sunday – the course and the Club house were full to the brim – brilliant atmosphere all day as the men held their Masters Thomas Easter Cup as well as the restaurant catering for 120 members and guests celebrating St George’s Day.
Easter Monday – we played the Park Salver Mixed Competition -24 couples/pairs competed –during the day followed by dinner, drinks and presentations in the evening.
Mark Quilter Club Captain presented the Park Salvers to Mr Nick Ball and Ms Dee Green as winners, with who beat Mr Tim Hunter and Ms Jackie Court into second place by 2 shots.
