Links Cup

The 1st Seniors competition of the year was won with an outstanding score of 45 points (Gross 75) of a handicap of 13 by Glyn Chapman (now playing off 11)

Glyn, whose handicap was reduced by 2 in 2011, relates his success to new bespoke irons and hours of practice.

Glyn has also qualified to play in the finals at ‘The K Club’.

The Dad's Army at Caister

Friday 16th March, 'The Dad's Army at Caister' mustered for their opening meeting of the year.

A record assembly of 27 players took part, despite several of the senior brigade on winter leave.

After stiff competition, on a chilly day, the victorious Texas team of Clive Greenwood (8), Cliff Williams (18) and Mel Collins (24) were declared winners with a score of 69 (one under par), net 59.

The 'army' continues to flourish with new recruits and volunteers always being made welcome and encouraged to take part in a full calendar of matches and competitions.

President, Joe Neep awarded the winners with their spoils of the battle.

Ladies v Seniors Match

The first leg of the Ladies versus the Seniors Match was played this week. The spring weather conditions made playing golf on our lovely Links course a real pleasure: especially for the Ladies who won (pictured). The score for this round was 3-2 to the ladies but that isn't the end of the story as the return match will be played in September. No doubt the rivalry will build during the season!!

Guildford Greensomes

The Seniors’ section ended a very enjoyable 2011 season on Thursday 15th December 2011 with a Guildford Greensomes competition, (don’t ask) followed by a Christmas lunch and prize presentation.

Twenty-eight members, including the Captain, Immediate Past Captain, President and several previous Captains faced the elements (winter finally reaches the Norfolk coast!) and the quirky format ( Who’s turn is it to hit which ball?) in a pre-curser to an excellent Christmas Meal.

Everyone taking part not only enjoyed themselves but won a prize, which were provided by last year’s Captain, John Tweed, other prizes being provided by The President , Joe Neep and David Futter.

The winners of the competition, with a very creditable score of 41 points (on count-back, last 9) were Glyn Chapman and Peter Platten. A close second with the same points were Rodney Beckett and Richard Hunn.

All except “four more delicate members” finished the full eighteen holes with scores ranging from 41 points to 32 points. Our condolences go to the ‘early bath boys’.

If the above sounds like it’s something you could enjoy, together with home and away matches against other Norfolk and Suffolk clubs, why not put your name and details on the list in the corridor leading to the men’s changing rooms in the clubhouse.
