WINTER LEAGUE

Well that’s another year gone with the culmination of the Winter League, my how time flies! Chris Robson and his elder partner Colin “Moped” Cooper clung on in the final round of this year’s Winter League to secure the title despite a display of the shakes by a very nervous CooperMan. Last year’s champions, John Ward and Johnnie Clements had to settle for the runner up spot whilst the perennial David Smith and Jon Green ended in third spot.

Brandon publican Allan Fraser is this year’s Rabbits champion whilst Neil Bunten produced his best for a long time to secure the RyCroft cup.

Nick Oot came out of hibernation to win the recent Sunday medal with an excellent gross 73 beating Michael Nerantzoulis into 2nd place. New member Ian Head took Division 2 with a nett 71, Alan Mahler finishing second.

Young Jake Girkin (5 stones soaking wet) showed his elders how it was done in Division 3 with a super 66, beating racing supremo Martyn Heyes who was runner-up.

The Veteran’s season is underway and they recently staged the Lamb Trophy played against the bogey format; Alan Preston at plus 2 beating John Mann (-1)

FROSTBITE TROPHY

Never has a competition been so aptly described; this competition was not for the club fair-weather and lightweight contingent, who seem to be growing in number; it was a day for the diehards given the cold and frosty morning. Respectable scores were returned, despite the conditions, resulting in a tie for first place between Lee Flanders and John Middleton, Lee coming out on c.b. with 18 points on the back 9 against Johns’ 17. Perennial Stableford scorer and Club President, John Ward, sneaked into 3rd spot with a more than respectable 34 pt.s.

Congratulations to John Brown from Lakenheath who scored his first ever hole in one on the 2nd during the Frostbite Trophy.

JUNE ACTIVITY

Glorious June is here, where? There has been a lot of activity in June starting with the Kevin Copper Trophy, this year contested in a more universally acceptable Greensomes format. Barry Granger and Alfie Puttock managed to hold off young guns Ross Markiewicz and Sam Sheppard by 43 points to 42. Jim Baker and Lenny Hopkinson, Captain and Vice Captain respectively returned 42 points but finished third on count back from the youngsters.

Next up was the Presidents Putter and this was won by recently rejoined David Butcher who carded a gross 70 which converted into Stableford points equates to 42. Congratulations must go to Chris Robson who shot 41 points to reduce his handicap to 1 although it was only good for 3rd spot. The runner-ups spot went to green keeper Carl McCreath who also scored 41 but beat young Robson on count back.

WSLO Rd. 2 was played in conditions more akin to Early Spring than Mid-summer, Chris Robson was again denied top spot in Division 1 despite carding a gross 70 the old campaigner Gerald Pearce also score a nett 69 to take the Division on count back. Graham King won Division 2 with a repeat of Saturday morning with a nett 68 beating another regular in the winner’s enclosure, Barry Granger who returned a nett 70. Carl McCreath’s handicap is “tumbling” and it fell again on Sunday with his fine nett 66 to wing Division 3 five shots clear of John “Butch C” Middleton.

LATEST RESULTS

Feltwell battled well in round #1 of the Barnard Trophy overcoming Ryston Park by 5 clear holes, next opponents in June are Mundesley Away.

The Brandon duo of Tony Carpenter and John Middleton combined nicely to accrue a combined stableford score 42 points to win the Better-Ball Stableford pairs, Bo Parker and Adrian Charles were 2 back on 40 points.

Steve Scott, part-time Administrator at Feltwell GC was in fine form winning the Hampshire Shield by 2 points, out-scoring Last year’s Vet’s Captain Barrie Pressling and Style Trophy winner David Leonard who both finished on 35 points respectively.

Bo Parker has been in good form of late and his 2 under par was good enough to win Division 1 of the recent Sunday Medal, it was close though he only saw off young Jack Sheward on count back. Barry Granger and Graham King, a couple of the more mature members finished 1st and 2nd in Division 2 on 71 & 72 respectively. The best Nett score was in Division 3 where window-fitter Mark Woods, younger brother of Ryan, scored a stupendous nett 64, 8 under par and saw his handicap drop from 28 to 25 plus another 1 for Standard of Play and Mark will enter the next competition on 24! Adam Bland at 6 under can be forgiven for thinking that it was good enough to take Division 3, sorry Adam but you couldn’t account for and even bigger bandit in the field.
