The aim of Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club is to provide its members with an environment where they can enjoy a competitive or social round of golf in a friendly atmosphere on a course that is challenging and well presented.

Men’s Club competitions are held on the first Sunday in every month of which many are prestigious. The Bawdsey Gold Medal was presented to the club by the Members of the Wimbledon & Blackheath Golf Club when the Club was founded in 1880 and is still played for on the first Sunday in August every year. The Tomline Cup, presented by Colonel G Tomline in 1881 and the Winchilsea Gold Medal presented to the club by Earl Winchilsea in 1900 are just two others in a list of many trophies that are played for at various times of the year and are all part of the history of the Club.

Knockout competitions within the Club take place particularly throughout the summer. The Throgmorton Vase was presented to the Club in 1890 and is the singles knockout with the Peppes Vases presented in 1930 by Captain CGH Peppe being a pair’s foursomes knockout. For those with a handicap of 20 or more the Rabbits Cup again is a singles knockout.

The Club enters all the men’s County Inter-Club competitions each year such as the Stensen Shield which is played off scratch, Hambro Cup for single figure handicap players and the Tolly Cobbold Cup for players with a handicap of 10 and above, plus more recently the Curry Cup which takes in not only Suffolk clubs but also those in Essex. Many friendly Inter-Club men’s matches are also played through the year against neighbouring clubs within our area.

Social golf is extremely important to the Club and many Charity and Fun Days are held through the year. The Stud Bar Challenge is held in mid- summer and attracts around 150 golfers, burgers, hot dogs and liquid refreshment is available all day with hog roast and jazz band in the evening – all finished off with a firework display – always a great social day.

Chris Pearson also holds a similar Charity Day towards the end of the summer; Beaujolais Day and the England v Scotland Challenge Match are also very enjoyable social days.

A friendly game of golf can always be found at the Club. Groups meet Thursday mid-morning and on Saturday mornings where you can just turn up and make yourself known to the group. 3 and 4 ball games are arranged according to numbers and off you go. A game is always available.

Social functions are held in our recently refurbished clubhouse, usually on Saturday evenings and our autumn - spring Friday Quiz nights are always extremely well supported. During the summer months from 3.30 p.m. on Friday’s a ‘Texas Scramble’ is played over 12 holes in which many members participate and this can be followed by our ‘famous’ fish and chips which is a great way to start the weekend.

If you are considering taking up, or indeed getting back into the game, why not give Felixstowe Ferry Golf Club a try and play on a true Links Course with stunning views in an atmosphere that is welcoming and friendly at times that are convenient to you.
