At the time of construction both courses were the first of their kind in the Country to be galleried or stadium courses to provide a good spectator appeal. » The principal course The East measures 7,138 yards of the back tees whilst the society golfer can enjoy an easier test off the forward tees of just over 6,000 yards. The West Course being of similar standard is slightly longer at 7,154 yards. » The courses were specifically designed with major championship golf in mind and it wasn't long before the European Tour staged 2 major European Opens at the Club. In 1993 Gordan Brand Junior was the first winner of the championship followed in 1994 by Ryder Cup player David Gilford. Many players currently on the E.T.P.D. Tour have played at The National including the likes of Nick Faldo, Colin Montgomery, Bernhart Langer, Sam Torrence and Ian Woosnam to name but a few. International names such as world No 1 Vijay Singh, World Matchplay Champion Ernie Els and US PGA Winner Retiff Goosen have also taken up the Challenge.   THE HOTEL » To compliment the complex, a new Hotel development is scheduled for completion in Spring 2006.
