Introduction
Welcome to Diss Golf Club Senior’s Section. We cater for all levels of golf for the male, 55+ age range. In addition to members new to golf in their retirement, we have a number of proficient members in their 80’s! From our twice weekly informal ‘Swindles’ through inter-club matches and right up to County and National Competitions, everyone who joins can find golf and social events to suit their level of play and aspirations. Every weekday you can find a group of seniors playing for fun. Whether you are new to golf, a returning golfer or a regular, our friendly groups will welcome you into our fold. We hold a summer BBQ in August and a Christmas Lunch for members and partners, as well as a members Christmas Lunch.

Competitions
In addition to all of the Main Club competitions that you are eligible to enter which are mostly played weekends, we hold mid-week:

  • Monthly Medal & Stableford Competitions,
  • An Annual two day, two round Senior’s Club Championship,
  • An Order of Merit,
  • Fun day Over 60, 65 and 70+ Competitions and
  • Charity Fundraising Competitions

Each year we play friendly matches against 19 of our near Norfolk & Suffolk neighbouring clubs on a home and away basis. We range from Norwich in the North to Ipswich in the South and from Swaffham in the West to Southwold in the East. If you like to visit other clubs, this is a great way to see and play them for just the cost of a meal. Also, we enter teams into the Suffolk County competitions (Parks & Beaumont).

DIVOTS (DIss Veterans Overseas TourS)
As the name suggests this began with groups travelling abroad for warmer weather golf and fun. More recently, the Seniors Committee have organised a Spring Golf Break when three days of golf is arranged at a specialist resort hotel, usually within a 2hrs travel distance from Diss GC. In 2011 we are going to Abbotsley Golf Club in Cambridgeshire during March. Its popularity can be judged by the fact that this year we have filled every place to the maximum number available – 36.  A good time can be pretty well guaranteed.

Pictured below is Phil Robinson – 2011 Captain presenting the ‘Le Frog’ trophy to Geoff Beaujeux who was winner of the 2010 DIVOTS tour, held at the Weald of Kent GC over three days.

Trips to overseas golf locations were restarted 5 years ago and last year a party of eight members went to Turkey (see photo below) in October 2010.  This year, again in October, eight members will be travelling to Spain.

Charity Work
Each year the Seniors Captain selects a charity for which we raise money through competitions, raffles and social events. Charities that have recently benefited from our efforts include: the Multiple Sclerosis Society, SSAFA, Medal Hall of Fame, Norfolk Cardiac Trust and the East Anglian Children’s Hospice. In 2011 the Seniors Captains charity is the East Anglian Air Ambulance.
