Diss golf club's New Lady Captain, Celia Pearson, drove 137.9 metres off the 1st tee, way-over the head of the intrepid press photographer (by his command), without batting an eyelid. She was surrounded by a group of very colourful supporters who'd entered into the spirit of this traditional, festive day and clapped and cheered at such a fine strike. It was a tie between Lou Adams and Deanna Boult, for guessing the length of the drive. A draw resulted in Deanna winning the prize.
Mulled wine and mince pies were served in the clubhouse before the start of the morning's golf by Vice Captain Di Randall. Raffle tickets were sold by Wendy Cheek and Carol Bourne. £155 was raised.
After a tasty lunch and 'thank you' speeches: to Judith Bedwell for doing the cards and Marianne Haines for organising the competition, to name but a few of the many helpers.

Special thanks to Sombra Patrick for her donation of magnificently knitted dolls, which are always well sort after. The auction raised a further £614 towards Captain Celia's chosen charity - the 'R.N.L.l.'
Jane Izod, Jane Lovell and Di Randall, the three members of the newly formed 'Pudding Club' (especially for the day), stood tall and had the golfing audience in 'stitches' and humming to the tune 'A winter wonderland' during their repertoire.
