Dereham Golf Club Ladies Section
The beginning of April saw 12 pairs playing in the Ladies Captain & Ladies Presidents fun competition.
An early shot gun start saw the winning pair of Helen Burrage and Margaret Myhill come home with 50 points, closely followed by Catherine Newey & Kay Bates on 49 points and Angela Savory-Moll and June Ellis in third place with 47 points.
Nearest the line on the 2nd was won by Marjorie Harvey and nearest the pin on the 12th was won by Catherine Newey.
Ladies Captain Maria Fox & Ladies President Sheila Brightwell presented prizes to Catherine, Marjorie and all three winning pairs.

Dereham Golf Club ladies recently held their AGM. Ladies President Maggie Wingate chaired the meeting and presented the cups and trophies to this year’s winners. Various reports were given on the years activities. The Lady Golfer of the Year rose bowl was won by Catherine Newey which Competition Secretary Jane Bizley said she felt was well deserved. Ladies Captain Dianne Wilkinson gave a report on her year and thanked everyone for their support. At the end of the meeting Dianne handed over the position of Ladies Captain to Maria Fox (pic – left Maria, right Dianne) and Maggie Wingate handed over the role of Ladies President to Sheila Brightwell.

Mixed Open
Dereham Golf Club ladies committee hosted the Club’s Mixed Open in which thirty pairs participated. Eleven golf clubs from around the county were represented. The competition was an 18 holes greensome Stableford which was played in warm sunshine.
The winners were Chris & Brenda Mace from Bawburgh with a fantastic 43 points. David Cooke (The Links) and Caroline Hawkins (Royal Cromer) came second on countback with 41 points, third were Gary & Elaine Field (Royal Cromer) 41 points and fourth Roger & June Meadows (Barnham Broom) also on 41 points. Nearest the pin prizes went to Elaine Field (Royal Cromer) and Brian Hardy (Costessey Park). Nearest the line was won by Mary Gamble (Bawburgh) and men’s longest drive by Angus Smith (Gorleston). The prizes were presented by organiser Ladies President Maggie Wingate.

Gillieson Cup
Since April 26 Norfolk clubs have contested the Gillieson Cup. This weekend Dereham Golf Club ladies won the final of this prestigious event at Thetford Golf Club playing against Costessey Park.
The Gillieson Cup is a foursomes team competition, each team consisting of three pairs. Captained by Carole Harrisson, Dereham had battled their way through the previous rounds as follows:
Round 1 – Bye
Round 2 – At home to Richmond Park winning 3-0
Round 3 – Away to Royal Cromer winning 2-1
Semi-final – At home to Thetford winning 2-1
Final – At Thetford against Costessey Park winning 2-1
The winning team was Helen Burrage & Pam Kaye, Catherine Newey & Maria Fox and Carole Harrisson & Elizabeth Bench. Mrs. Harrisson thanked all the players for their excellent play throughout the competition. She also expressed her thanks to Sarah Watts and Cindy Tufts who had played in the away match at Royal Cromer.
Dereham last won the competition in 2003 when Elizabeth Bench was Ladies Captain, this year it was won on her birthday so it was a double celebration for the Dereham team.

Ladies President, Maggie Wingate, watched 29 ladies play for the President’s Rose Bowl.
Husband Dick acted as starter in the morning for what was a rather blustery day. With some great scores from many players, Sheila Brightwell took top spot with a fantastic 42 points, 2nd was Catherine Newey 41 points and in 3rd Elaine Thexton 40 points (ocb). Nearest the line went to Ladies Captain Dianne Wilkinson and nearest the pin to Jane Bizley.
Congratulations also went to Helen Burrage & Pam Kaye who have reached the finals of the Daily Mail Foursomes which will be played at The Marriott Dalmahoy, near Edinburgh 16-18 October. This is how they made it to the last 16 pairs in the country:

Round 4 – Away at Barnham Broom, beating England Senior Jo Ashmore & County Captain Alex Cowie 5 & 4

Round 6 – At home to Aldeburgh winning 4 & 3
Round 7 – Away at Pavenham Park, Beds., winning 2 & 1.
Dereham ladies are also in the final of the Gillieson Cup against Costessey Park. The final will be played at Thetford Golf Club on Sunday 25th September at 12 noon. All supporters welcome.

Ladies Invitation Day
Dereham Golf Club ladies section hosted its annual Ladies Invitation Day. Nineteen pairs played a four ball better ball competition in the rain followed by a most enjoyable fork buffet lunch. The winners were Jane Bizley and her guest Margaret Baxter from Royal Cromer with 37 points, closely followed by Jackie Parker & Hilary Smith 36 points, beating Margaret Myhill and Elaine Field on count back. All three pairs received Marks & Spencer gift vouchers. Heather Clements and Chris Head who won the nearest the pin prizes were presented with bottles of wine.

Congratulations to Helen Burrage & Pam Kaye who have reached the 6th round of the Daily Mail Foursomes and will be playing Aldeburgh Golf Club at Dereham on 8th August.
Also congratulations to the Dereham ladies team who reached the semi-final of the Gillieson Cup by beating Royal Cromer 2-1 at Royal Cromer. They will now take on Thetford or Great Yarmouth and Caister at Dereham.
DEREHAM LADIES OPEN
Dereham Golf Club ladies section hosted their annual Ladies Open with a full field of 14 teams of four. The game was played as an Am Am with two scores out of four counting on each hole. After play and before the presentations all ladies enjoyed a two-course meal.
The winners of the main event were The Norfolk with 88 points, 2nd place went to Bawburgh on 83 points (ocb) and 3rd to Gorleston also on 83 points. The nearest the line prize was won by Sally Taylor from Royal Cromer. Nearest the pin prizes were awarded to Sue Harrison from Royal West Norfolk and Helen Gammage from The Norfolk.

DEREHAM GOLF CLUB – LADIES’ CAPTAIN’S DAY 2011
Dereham Golf Club’s Ladies’ Captain, Dianne Wilkinson, recently held her Ladies’ Captain’s Day in which 26 ladies played. All ladies were presented with gift bags before play and then went out to enjoy an 18 holes Stableford competition.
It was a lovely day, enjoyed by all, with some good scores and a meal afterwards. Ladies attending the dinner also received flowers and chocolates.
The winner of the Ladies’ Captain’s Prize was Margaret Myhill (40 pts) with Heather Clements beating Helen Burrage on countback (39 pts). There was also a nearest the line prize for Christine Joy and a nearest the pin prize for Eve Holmes.

Dianne Wilkinson & Jill Trudgill will be representing Dereham Golf Club in the grand final of the PING four-ball better-ball competition in Gainsborough in September, having won their qualifying competition at Dereham in May.

The last Tuesday of April saw 9 teams of 3 players playing in the Ladies Captain & Ladies Presidents Spring Waltz.
An early shot gun start saw the winning team of Julie Bray, Mitzi Barnes & June Ellis come home with 79 points, closely followed by Pam Kaye, Helen Howe & Jill Trudgill with 77 points and Carole Harrisson, Kathy Duffield & Christine Joy with 76 points.
Ladies Captain Dianne Wilkinson & Ladies President Maggie Wingate presented prizes to all three teams.
