Dereham Junior August Bank Holiday 2010

On a fine and dry Bank Holiday Monday, Dereham Golf Club saw the annual adult/junior competitions being competed for by 22 pairs. In the 18-hole Alec Porter Shield, 14 pairs had a tight-fought game with the eventual winners being Stuart Bizley & Ryan Thorogood 41 points, closely followed by Kevin Joy & George Bedwell 40, Kay & Alex Bates 39 and Elaine Thexton & Lewis Bates 38.

The 9-hole Bob Lees Trophies were won by new members, father & son duo, Ian & Jordan Quirke with 23 points (ocb), John & Immy Leeder were beaten on countback (23) with Derek & Liam Kevern in third place with 20 points.

The nearest the pin prizes went to John & Immy Leeder on the 3rd and Colin Tucker on the 17th.

After the competition GMC Chairman Stuart Bizley cooked a barbecue for players and their families. During the afternoon there was also a putting competition with prizes going to Hakan Tokbay, Lewis Bates & Kay Bates. Several older junior members were presented with thank you gifts for their help throughout the summer.

The season continues with the Wallace Trophy & Corroless Trophies on 12th September and closes on Sunday 24th October with the Alarming UK salvers and presentation night.

The nearest the pin on 3rd was won by John Leeder & Colin Tucker on the 17th.

The putting competition was won by Hakan Tokbay (9 holes) 14 points, Lewis Bates (18holes) 25points & Kay Bates (adult prize) 25 points.

22 pairs took part in total, thank you to all for the support shown to the juniors.

2010 Scratch Cup & Wiseman Trophy

Dereham Golf Club’s junior members recently competed for the Scratch Cup & Wiseman Trophy. The Scratch Cup was taken by William Cross with a gross 76 (76-9-67), 2nd was Lewis Bates with 81. In the Wiseman Trophy Liam Cameron took the top position with a net 64 (80-16-64), closely followed by Alex Tang (81-14-67). Unfortunately due to too few entrants the 9 holes Corroless trophies were not played for and have been postponed to September. Six younger members did play 9 or 5 holes and were each given a small prize for doing so.

The season continues with the Wallace Trophy & Corroless Trophies on 12th September.

August 6th saw 37 junior golfers play for the Rivett Trophy in the 22nd Dereham Junior Open. With competitors coming from all over Norfolk, the field produced some fantastic scores. The Rivett Trophy was retained by Dereham’s Jason Tudge with a net 60 (78-18-60), who earlier in the year had suffered a broken leg; the scratch prize went to Dereham’s junior captain Jamie Beeby, with a gross 72. The day was very kindly sponsored by Smith & Pinching Insurance Brokers, who were represented by Kevin Pearson; President Ian Alderton and Stuart & Jane Bizley sponsored nearest the pin prizes. Kevin Pearson presented the prizes along side Club Captain Keith Wilkinson & President Ian Alderton.

Other results were 2nd net James Bool, Caldecott Hall, (88-25-63) 3rd Ryan Thorogood, Dereham, (79-15-64 ocb) 4th James Rowswell, Caldecott Hall, (88-24-64). 2nd gross, Nic Cains, Barnham Broom, 75, 3rd George Anthony, Barnham Broom, 76 ocb, 4th Alex Fellas 76. Nearest the pin prizes went to James Rowswell, Ryan Thorogood and Jack Brister (Bawburgh).

Juniors Silver Medal - 22nd July 2010
Junior Silver Medal Competition

On Sunday 22nd July Dereham Golf Club’s junior members compete at three levels for the Silver Medal, kindly sponsored this year by Fenn Green Signs of Dereham.

In the 18 holes Harriet Allsebrook stormed in front to take the Silver Medal with a fantastic net 63 (85-22-63), second was Liam Cameron (83-18-65), third place Jamie Beeby on countback to Lewis Bates, both with a net 66. The 9 hole competition saw some good scores from our younger juniors. Callum Turner took the salver with a net 33, his second win in 4 weeks, with Kobe Money in second place with a net 38. In the 5 hole competition Hakan Tokbay took only 37 shots over 5 holes to take the winners prize. He will now move up to play in the 9 hole competitions. All prize winners received vouchers for the pro shop.

The season continues on Saturday 14th August with the Scratch Cup & Wiseman Trophy for the 18 holes and the Corroless Cup & Shield for those playing 9 holes. Junior Monday Club continues weekly until late August.




DOUBLE CELEBRATIONS

Nic Cains recently celebrated winning the 18-hole Larking Gowen Junior Championship at Dereham Golf Club, while junior captain Jamie Beeby won the Captain’s Shield competition, both of which were kindly sponsored by Larking Gowen, Chartered Accountants & Business Advisors.

Sixteen year old Nic lead the field of 17 juniors and won with a gross 70, net 64. He was presented with the Larking Gowen claret jug by Philip Moy, a partner with the firm. Mr. Moy presented pro’ shop vouchers to Michael Watters & Harriet Allsebrook who took second & third places.

Seventeen year old Jamie was delighted to win the Captain’s Shield, completing the course with a gross 68, playing off a 7 handicap. He was presented with the Captain’s shield & putter by Club Captain Keith Wilkinson. The Captain presented pro’ shop vouchers to Lewis Bates & Will Cross who took second and third places in the gross competition.

Also during the afternoon there was also a 9-hole competition which was won by Joshua Goodwins (gross prize) & Callum Turner (net prize), plus 4 of our younger juniors took part in a 5-hole competition which was won by 9 year old Hakan Tokbay. They all received vouchers, as did Liam Kevern and Kobe Money who came second in each category. Vouchers for all winners were also sponsored by Larking Gowen.

There was a nearest the pin on the third hole which was open to all players; the Captain presented the prize for this to Liam Cameron.

“All the juniors performed well on what was probably the hottest day of the year, with some excellent scores from those in the prizes, both gross and net”, said junior secretary Jane Bizley.

“The day was fantastic, with 27 juniors participating in total. Everyone had a great afternoon. Once again we are most grateful to Larking Gowen for their support and sponsorship”, she added.

Spring Bank Holiday - Worthington Trophy - 31st May 2010
Junior results for Spring Bank Holiday 2010

Spring Bank Holiday saw 28 of Dereham Golf Club’s junior members compete at three levels for the Worthington Trophy, kindly sponsored this year by Mr. Glen Anderson of Dillington Hall Estate.

In the 18 holes Liam Cameron retained the Worthington Trophy with a very ‘worthy’ net 64 (84-20-64), close second was Ryan Thorogood (84-18-66), followed in third place by Nick Johnson (91-23-68). The 9 hole competition saw some brilliant scores from our younger juniors. Liam Kevern, who celebrated his ninth birthday two weeks ago, took the salver with a net 33, having pipped Max Jacobs net 34 at the post, Josh Goodwins took third with a net 38. In the 5 hole competition Hakan Tokbay, also nine, took the winners prize.

Following the competition Frazer Chettleburgh, George Bedwell & Tom O’ Keefe were all awarded their CONGU handicaps.

The season continues on Sunday 27th June with the Captains Junior Prize & the Larking Gowen Championship, kindly sponsored by Larking Gowen. Junior Monday Club continues weekly until late August.

2nd ROUND WIN IN K K SMITH - 17th May 2010

In the second round of the junior inter-club knockout, the K K Smith Trophy, Dereham beat Richmond Park by 9 holes. Junior captain Jamie Beeby, playing their junior captain, gave 3 shots and won by 4 holes, Will Tang gave 10 shots and won by 1 hole, Alex Bates gave 17 shots and won by 4 holes and junior vice-captain Michael Watters gave 16 shots and halved.

An excellent win for Dereham, giving them a place in the quarter finals, which will be played on Sunday 20th June.

MAY DAY BANK HOLIDAY - 3rd May 2010
Winner of the Steve Jack Trophy - Tom

May Day Bank Holiday saw 27 of Dereham Golf Club’s junior members battle against the wind and showers to play for the Steve Jack trophies.

In the 18 holes junior captain Jamie Beeby took the Steve Jack Salver (gross) with a fantastic 76 (76-7-69), followed by Will Cross (79-10-69) & Will Tang (86-11-75). The Steve Jack Cup (net) went to Alex Bates with an excellent 66 (78-12-66), closely followed by Harriet Allsebrook (net 68) and Liam Cameron (net 73). The 9 hole competition saw some brilliant scores from our younger juniors. Tom Newey took the Steve Jack Trophy (gross) with 53 (53-17-36), 2nd Max Jacobs and 3rd Joshua Goodwins. The Steve Jack Memorial Trophy (net) was won by Tom O’ Keefe with a net 37, 2nd net went to Liam Sewell who beat Morgan Blanks into 3rd place on countback. Once again the 5 hole competition was won by 7 year old Harry O’ Keefe who will now be moving up to play in the 9 hole competitions.

This year’s competition was kindly sponsored by Ben Burgess (Agricultural Machinery) who provided salvers and pro’ shop vouchers for the winners.

The season continues on Monday 31st May with the Worthington Trophy, kindly sponsored by Dillington Hall PYO. Junior Monday Club continues weekly until late August.

In the Young Cup, a County Lady/Junior Girl knockout competition, junior secretary Jane Bizley & Harriet Allsebrook went to Eaton Golf Club and, having given 4 shots to their opponents Sue Wybar & Megan Mann, won their first round match 3 & 2. For the second round they have a home draw when they will meet another Eaton pair.

August 7th saw a full field of junior golfers play for the Rivett Trophy in the 21st Dereham Junior Open. With competitors coming from Lincolnshire, as well as many county-wide, the field produced some fantastic scores. The Rivett Trophy went to Dereham’s Jason Tudge with a net 60 (80-20-60); the scratch prize to Franklyn Plume, Sprowston Manor, with gross 72 ocb. The day was kindly sponsored by Dereham Round Table, whose vice-Chairman Spencer Burrell presented the prizes along side Club President Ian Alderton.

Other results were 2nd net Harriet Allsebrook, Dereham, 101-36-65 ocb, 3rd net Alex Tang, Dereham, 84-19-65, 4th net George Anthony, Barnham Broom, 79-13-66.
