An attractive par 71, 18 hole The original 9 hole course was created in 1983. The course is located on the south bank of the picturesque River Deben, half way along its navigable length from Woodbridge to Felixstowe.
Waldringfield was extended to 18 holes in 1987, creating an picturesque flat heathland course. Now measuring 6,046 yards from the white tees it offers an enjoyable challenge. It is particularly attractive to older golfers given its flat nature and the ability to use powered trolleys or buggies all year round.
Nature provides the main hazards in the form of gorse, which covers the entire course. This prickly shrub with its attractive yellow flowers and delicious almond scent is in bloom for most of the year.
The club is now under new management for the third time in 15 years. It is a Proprietry club run as a members club. Having played the course for many years one of the big fustrations is that you can get a bad bounce from an otherwise good shot on the middle of the fairway an end up in the thick yellow gorse which can be quite painful if you are determine to find your ball. It’s a tight course that does have a few rabbit scrapes but generally has been kept in good condition over past years. We only hope the owners, a development company continue to improve the course as did the previous owners.
There are some quirky holes particularly around the turn with some very short par 4 holes and a par 3 just over 100 yards.
Our view is that Waldringfield is a nice course but then you are spoilt for choice within a very short distance, Rushmere, Ipswich, Woodbridge, Ufford Park, Felixstowe Ferry all mature challenging courses worth playing and should Waldringfield be your first choice... not necessarily.
Wakes and Weddings though very good value for money.
