Diss Golf Club has been at its current location at Stuston since 1903. Often hailed as an inland links course it really does have some quirky holes. One in particular that I never seem to be able to cope with, the 13th. A relatively simple drive up to the ridge which suddenly leaves you a shot of circ 200 yards over scrub land to the green. It doesnt matter how many times I play that hole I really don’t like it.
The other really quirky hole is the 9th, its the green, shaped like a person’s cupped hand with humps and bumps, rabbit scrapes and heather it really is crazy golf at its worst.
There are however a number of really good golf holes although the course is blighted by the site of several electric pylons on the course and surrounding area which in some way spoils a very challenging experience.
The first three holes are are relatively young in comparison to the rest of the course. The first hole is long par 3 not easy but quite featureless when compared to the established holes when you cross the road back to to the heart of the course and the holes that give the course its character.
I have had some enjoyable visits to Diss Golf Club over the years, it is not an easy course but worth trying. It is a course and a club that divides opinion you either like it or hate it but it is still worth playing
Like most Clubs in the area at the moment membership is available and green fees are welcome.
