Hole in One for Brian

ACE for Brian

Playing with his usual group in the Saturday Swindle, Brian Richardson scored his first ever Hole-in-One at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club. With a stiff cross-wind affecting the 156 yard 12th hole he had to judge his 6 iron perfectly and was rewarded when with one bounce the ball went in the hole.
He then decided it was a sufficient emergency to use the exemption from the rules and use his mobile to call the clubhouse and open a tab so that everyone on the course could celebrate with a drink!

***********STOP PRESS***********
PLAY AGAINST ROOKERY IF YOU WANT A HOLE IN ONE!
Bungay Members must have some sort of magic touch when playing at neighbours Rookery Park. In a recent seniors match Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club member Robyn Hipperson managed his second Hole-in-One inside 14 months. Using a well struck 7 wood his ball bounced on the green of the 159 yard par three 14th hole and disappeared regally down the hole! The usual clubhouse invitation to a drink was the suitable celebration for his achievement.
*********** The second report to reach the office was a Hole-in-One by Bungay Junior Member Sam Page when playing in an Am-Am at Rookery. He has achieved his first Hole-in-one aged 16 with a perfectly judged 9 iron at the 138 yard 9th hole. Sam said "the ball was going straight for the pin, bounced a couple of times and ran straight into the hole". Father sorted out the usual celebrations at the 19th.

The sun shone for this year's Lady Captain's Day at Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club. The day was an undoubted success with 54 playing a team Stableford "with a twist" and over 70 attending the lunch that followed. In her speech Chris Jamieson, the Lady Captain paid tribute to the friendly atmosphere of the Club and the way the Ladies section is run so efficiently. The Ladies welcome players of all abilities and almost all those who have joined the Club this year joined in the day. Chris also thanked all those ladies who had, by tradition, provided desserts and puddings to round off the meal.

Playing off a handicap of one he played consistent and solid golf returning 69 in each of the two rounds. This showing was good enough to give him victory in both the Ronald Wightman Cup (Scratch) and the Doug Mattocks Trophy (Handicap) It is not difficult to see why Alastair plans a career as a professional golfer.

CAPTAINS CHARITY DAY 2007
-
21st September 2007 |
Captain’s Charity Day 2007 ****************************** Mike Copsey, Captain of Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club was quite rightly pleased with an almost record turnout for his Charity Day on Friday 21 September. 168 players from 27 different golf clubs pitted their skills in a four-ball team Stableford for one of the fine prizes on offer. The day was organised to benefit The Ashley Jolly Sudden Adult Death Syndrome Trust. Mike has a good reason for his support – his daughter lost her apparently fit and healthy partner aged 37 to this traumatic syndrome. Mike was determined to make it a fitting day and hopes that by the end of the year he will be able to contribute over £4,500 for the charities work. The day was sponsored by Wilson Golf, Mervyn Ducker and Robinson Audi and Mike thanked them for their support. *********************************** Overall Winners Paul Smith and Ron Jenkins, Bury St Edmunds, James Brinded & Jason Watson-Smith, Thorpeness with 133 points
Mens Team Winners Mervyn and John Ducker, Bungay, Charles and Robert Stubbs, Woodthorpe Hall with 130 Points
Mixed Team Winners Yolie & Michael Dye, Penny & Albert Adams, Bungay with 120 points

Prestigious Award -

PRESTIGIOUS AWARD FOR CLUB
Bungay and Waveney Valley Golf Club has received recognition in a prestigious course rankings initiative.
The HSBC Regional Course Rankings run alongside the Golf Monthly Top 120 rankings and are designed to identify the excellent courses in the UK and Ireland that may not feature in the Top 120 but still deserve recognition.
To set the regional rankings apart, evaluations are carried out by grass roots golfers working from an official handbook designed by industry experts and only golfers who met the strict criteria can qualify to become panellists. The initiative is gathering momentum and to date over 400 regional panellists have been recruited and more than 1000 clubs have been recognised.
Receiving the official HSBC Regional Course Rankings certificate for the Silver award, John Lunniss, the Club Secretary said he was proud that Bungay had achieved this commendation and thanked the Committee and Greens Staff for their hard work in maintaining the course to such a high standard.
