The British Pitch & Putt Association Stroke Play Championships were held on Sunday, 14th June, 2009 at Abbotsley Pitch and Putt Course, St. Neots, Cambs.
The fine sunny weather and excellent course management by the staff of Crown Golf ensured the course was in first class condition. As a result the competitors produced scores to a very high and improved standard.
The winner of the Men’s Championship played over 54 holes was Dagenham member, Steve Deeble, who was favourite following two rounds of 48 and 51, and with a third round of 49 produced a total of 148, 14 under par to become British Champion for 2009. Runner up was Daniel Landers on 156 with John Deeble, son of Steve, in third place on the same score.
The Ladies Championship was won by Doreen Powell from Abbotsley, with Ron Cope, from Dagenham, retaining the Senior Championship for a fourth year.
The excellent play produced 15 sub-par rounds and three holes in one: husband and wife Graham and Doreen Powell and Darren Collins.
