Hole by Hole Guide

When you first hear that Arkley is “only” a nine hole course, take no notice. The course is laid out so that there are in fact 18 holes, the back nine being greatly different from the front nine!

Par 69 (6046 yards) for the Men and Par 72 (5609) for the Ladies - you will NOT be disappointed when you play!

PRO TIPS

Hole 1 Good opening hole. Bunker on right comes into play for longer hitters - 384 yards to carry. Prevailing left to right wind normally means playing from right and rough unless you aim left-centre of fairway. Greenside bunkers left and right - be careful.
Hole 2 171 yards. Gentle downhill par 3. Greenside bunkers left and right. Make sure you read your putt correctly and don't hit too hard going down hill!
Hole 3 392 yards. Think about taking less club off the tee to place ball on fairway, otherwise danger lurks left and right.
Hole 4 Probably the best hole on the course. Need to get the ball on the fairway from tee to score. A well struck 2nd will find the green. Don't go right off the tee.
Hole 5 483 yards. For the big hitter a good chance to get home in 2 but will need to carry the last of 4 bunkers to get there.
Hole 6 404 yards. One of the most difficult fairways on the course to hit because of the angle of the fairway, and be careful of the Arkley Bounce! Bunkers left and right of the green guard this hole. The green slopes from front to back.
Hole 7 187 yards. A big cross bunker guards the front of the green with 2 more either side. Quite a big green with a good look at the line of your putt required.
Hole 8 412 yards. Tough par 4. Long straight drive is a must to make 4 otherwise a long tricky 2nd up hill will be needed.
Hole 9 165 yards. 5 bunkers guard the green so as long as you are long enough you will be OK. Anything short or wayward will be eaten by them. Beware the Chimneys!
Hole 10 434 yard par 4. Hardest hole on the course. Great drive needed to get home in 2. Normally hitting your second from a downhill lie to make it harder!
Hole 11 216 yards. A tough par 3. You will be pleased with a 3 here.
Hole 12 373 yards. To gain more distance you will have to take on the big tree, then you will have to be very straight - if not you're in the rough!
Hole 13 336 yards. A good tee shot will see you past all the danger setting up an easy 2nd.
Hole 14 415 yards. Another hard par 4. A straight drive normally gathers to the left with a good 2nd to carry the bunkers to the green.
Hole 15 353 yards. Because of the different tee placement , not quite as hard off the tee, but a tricky 2nd shot to hit the green.
Hole 16 284 yards. Gentle draw off the tee to set up a short approach.
Hole 17 506 yards. Last par 5 on the course. Big hitters could make it in 2 but otherwise 3 nicely controlled shots should make the green.
Hole 18 160 yards. Normally plays straight into the wind so make sure you take plenty of club.
